WACO, Texas – Baylor men’s tennis released its 2023 spring schedule on Tuesday, as announced by head coach Michael Woodson.

“We are really fortunate to be able to play one of the premier schedules in the country every season,” said Woodson. “The mix of being in the strongest conference, coupled with the opportunity to play a vast array of top-20 teams throughout the non-conference schedule, really challenges our guys at the highest level and it’s why young men come to Baylor. To play on our team is to be tested and to play the best of the best. We certainly were able to accomplish that in our schedule this year.”

The Bears will host 13 of their 22 regular-season matches in Waco, including Big 12 contests against Texas Tech and Texas. The Hurd Tennis Center is also set as an outdoor host site for the ITA Kickoff Weekend, Jan. 27-28, featuring a two-round tournament with Arizona State, San Diego and Florida State.

“Our fans will really enjoy some of the teams that we have coming to the Hawkins Indoor and the Hurd Tennis Center this year, and we are going to make some great trips to play some of the premier teams from other conferences,” said Woodson.

The 2023 season officially opens with a doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 15, with matches against Lamar and Incarnate Word. The Bears hit the road after for a match at William and Mary on Jan. 20 and at Virginia on Jan. 22.

The Bears return to Waco to host the ITA Kickoff weekend one week later, Jan. 27-28. The winner of two matches moves on the national tournament in February.

February opens with a three match homestand against Michigan (Feb. 3), Arizona (Feb. 10) and a non-conference bout against TCU on Feb. 8.

The Bears are back on the road for a week, as they head to Ohio State on Feb. 14 and then compete at the ITA Indoor National Championships in Chicago, the 17th-20th.

Brown and Abilene Christian converge in Waco for a doubleheader on Feb. 25 to begin a four-game homestand, ending with Arizona State and Furman in a doubleheader on March 5. Road action in March features USC on the 10th, SMU on the 23rd and Tulsa on the 29th.

Illinois and Wake Forest find matches at the Hurd Tennis Center after students return from spring break, on the 17th and 19th of March, respectively.

Big 12 play begins at home on April 1 against the Red Raiders from Texas Tech. After a trip up I-35 to play TCU on April 6th, the Bears return home to face Texas on April 8.

Conference wraps up with an Oklahoma-wide road trip, with matches against the University of Oklahoma on the 14th and Oklahoma State the 16th.

The postseason begins at the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence, Kan., as the Bears look to win their fourth-straight Big 12 Championship trophy, April 21st-23rd.

After the first three rounds of the NCAA tournament are played at campus sites, all eyes turn to Orlando, Fla., and the USTA National Campus where both team and individual champions will be crowned.

The Bears take the courts with seven returners from the 2022 roster, which saw a third-straight year in the NCAA quarterfinals and the fifth-straight year with 20-plus wins.

“I am really looking forward to getting started, and January is coming up soon,” said Woodson.
