I'm not sure if the final result would have changed. Even if we managed to tie it up & go into OT, they were playing better than us for all of the second half & our D was gassed. Still, the momentum would have shifted favorably. We will never know.

Yeah, that call is bull**** but there is nothing we could do and even if Baylor caught the touchdown, Baylor would probably lose in overtime anyway

Here's how I see it.

First, I spent over a decade as a high school back judge, and what comes into play is not only what the defender does, but also whether the pass was considered catchable, and also the game situation.

To point one, there is no question the defender made improper contact. he clearly grabbed the hips, then one shoulder of the receiver.

However, the pass came in a bit high, so the receiver should have jumped to make a play on it. Instead, the receiver did not appear to know where the ball was, and I am sure that influenced the official.

Finally, officials really are reluctant to be seen as deciding the game, and after having a review which put a second pack on the clock (yes it was the right thing to do) they did not want to appear to be giving Baylor yet another play to try to tie the game or win on a touchdown and 2 point conversion.

I think the biggest part was the receiver not showing awareness of the ball. Without that the official could decide it was not catchable, even though in that case he should have called defensive holding.
That which does not kill me, will try again and get nastier

You are absolutely spot on about the entire play. The receiver looked lost.

If they had properly called PI and we won after putting one second back on the clock, would Utah pull a Tom Osborne hissyfit and run off to the Big 10?

No because the Big 10 won't have them. That's why they are coming to the Big 12 next year.

100%.

It's how John Stockton made that wide open 3 in game 6 of the 1997 NBA WCF vs. the Rockets.

He was wide open because Malone grabbed the switch man and didn't let go.

Malone knew the refs weren't going to call it (he talked about this years later).

That was a home game for the Rockets and shows you the refs really want to stay out of being seen as deciding the game.

In marked contrast, from 2011-2015 BU football's success didn't depend on what happened in other schools' football programs. Now we've returned to backing into success.
