Fort Bend Marshall Safety Josh Lair Signs With Baylor
Fort Bend (TX) Marshall High School 2024 safety Josh Lair has committed and signed with Baylor on National Signing Day Wednesday after taking an unofficial visit over the weekend. He becomes signee No. 14 in the 2024 class.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect signed with Washington in December before the departure of head coach Kalen DeBoer to Alabama. Baylor was in his final three along with Texas when he initially made the decision to commit to Washington.
The Baylor offer made a huge impact on him when it came back in February of 2023 as the Bears became just the third Power Five program to offer him.
“To have my dream school offer me is truly a blessing,” he said when he was initially offered. “I’ve always wanted to major in sports medicine, Baylor University has an amazing sports medicine program. As far as football, I’ve always loved the culture and the passion that is put into Baylor football.”
Baylor defensive coordinator Matthew Powledge called to offer the priority safety prospect back in February as the two have been building a relationship since he arrived back at Baylor from Oregon last off season.
“He really just emphasized how important the game is to him and how I could potentially contribute to the program,” he said. “I’m able to play in the box, physical, can cover, and overall a student of the game it’s self. He likes the pace that I play at and overall my game.”
He totaled 52 tackles, 10 for loss, and an interception as a senior. As a junior he totaled 54 tackles, 13 for loss, three forced fumbles, two interceptions, and three sacks.
Currently Lair is ranked as a four-star, 91-rated prospect on SicEm365, on 247 he is an 89-rated three-star prospect and the No. 58 recruit in the state of Texas. On3, Rivals, and ESPN have him rated as a high three-star prospect.
