Too Little Late: Instant Reaction to Losing to Clemson

I’ll column later. But I want something instantly on this one. 

⇒ I feel awful for Ja’Kobe Walter

He went to the line with 36.2 seconds left and the chance to tie it. Baylor would have been guaranteed the final possession. He missed both. I saw how Walter reacted in Kansas City after losing to Iowa State. I’m not going to add more salt for a guy who understands what happened.

Since they are paid players they need to be held to a higher standard of performance. They are not kids. Probably making more money than you and i do

It's all a cope. When we win, people get super serious, then when we lose it's "just a game"

Until Baylor starts valuing possessions throughout a game, develops some toughness and learns to improve its D, you will continue to see 1st weekend exits. Baylor recruits enough top notch basketball players to always finish in the top half of the Big 12 and make the NCAA tournament but it has begun to develop fatal flaws in its roster structure if the goal is to actually advance in the tournament.

Valuing possessions starts with a PG and the last 3 starters in that position since the national championship team have been turnover machines although sometimes that has been in part to poor movement and spacing by other players throughout the floor. If Baylor does not go to the portal and find an experienced leader at PG, it will be back in this same position 1 year from now. A freshman PG or Miro Little can be appropriate supporting pieces but if they are the starters then next year will be a long year for the Bears.

Unless we land a good transfer point guard next year is g going to look a lot like that year AJ Walton was our starting point guard.

He didn't cost us the game. In fact, his play in the first half kept us in it. But he did cost a chance to win it late.

Even if he had only made one of those two free throws, there is an enormous difference between a three- and four-point game in the final 35 seconds.

I think there's a balance to be struck between perspective and accountability. Both are equally important IMO.
