Wright and Edgecombe are both freshmen, both trying to force things too much at times, but both seemingly great teammates and still learning. The only sign that is starting to worry me is that after 5 games VJ's shooting an atrocious 34% from the field and 23% from 3. We are not going to be a contender for the Big 12 title if that doesn't change over the course of the next few weeks. He's never been known as a great outside shooter but a lot of his misses are on wild, AAU running out of control to the rim and throwing up crazy shots hoping to draw a foul. You get those calls in AAU. You don't often get those calls in high level college games. I'm sure he is learning that and will adjust accordingly as we continue into the season. We aren't typically going to need him to carry the offensive load because we have Norchad and Roach, and then we have streaky guys like Nunn and Celestine (and Love, when fully healed) who will help be that 3rd scorer on a game to game basis. But we definitely need VJ's improvement to continue and need him on the court because his athleticism is unparalleled as long as it is too the betterment of the team and not to the detriment.
And, I agree with several other comments that I'm sure he was overly excited and pressured by the fact he was playing in front of friends and family so I expect to see a much better version of him tonight given that initial game experience last night.
