Baylor redshirt junior guard Langston Love will enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal; it was first reported by Jeff Goodman. The Universal City, Texas native spent four injury-riddled seasons in Waco as part of head coach Scott Drew’s program and has one year left to play at his next stop.

Love averaged 8.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists across 20 games this season; he has played in 74 games throughout his Baylor career.

He was a front-runner for the Big 12’s Sixth Man of the Year award in 2023-2024 and was averaging 11 points per game on 48% shooting from beyond the arc before an ankle injury cut his season to a close after 24 games.

Love was a four-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class out of Montverde Academy. He missed the entire 2021-2022 season with a torn ACL. The following year, an eye injury forced him to miss three of Baylor’s final four games, and he logged just five minutes in the NCAA Tournament against No. 14-seeded UC Santa Barbara. 

After the aforementioned ankle injury forced him to miss 13 of the Bears’ final 15 games in 2023-2024, a lengthy recovery from offseason surgery lingered into the start of the 2024-2025 season, forcing Love to play in just eight of Baylor’s first 22 contests.

This is a good sign. I think it is the first sign of Drew's changing roster management. No more keeping guys around just to keep them around. You are paid athletes now and you must perform. If not you will be politely asked to leave.

I wouldn't mind next year being a tough one in the W/L department if he invested in multi-year players.

This is probably a bit unfair in the sense that when healthy he performed at a high level. That said LL is too injury prone to rely on for anything more than 12-15 mpg at this point.

Bear2 and I had a convo on a thread about that. I'm in the same boat. A growing pains year wouldn't be the worst thing. Get a bunch of multi year guys in and start building for the long term gain.

Potential to rehab in a new environment and kill next year. Unlikely but I wouldn't be shocked. If it's out of conference, hope he does well.

The problem with all that is the proposed House Settlement. From what I understand, the NCAA antitrust proposed legislation would allow schools to share up to $20mm annually with student athletes. Between $4-6mm will be allotted to MBB rosters--which could grow to 15 players. This legislation is reported in Forbes to also cancel all NIL contracts above $600. All this is to say: if you are hoping to land a number of players on a multi-year NIL contract, this may not be the year for that as NIL would competely change next year. Welcome to the new world of college basketball.

I hope he goes elsewhere we never play him again and he does well. But I will say if he goes somewhere else and has a perfectly healthy season, I think it'll answer important questions about our training staff and how much of our injuries are freak accidents or some side effect of something we're doing.

That team still had Harvey and Terrance Thomas, who made us somewhat competitive with 31ppg. We have minimum 5 players to replace, as many as left with the Bliss firing.

Y'all seem to be forgetting we also have a potential all-american PG coming back next season---those don't grow on trees and makes a huge difference in CBB. Wright could next year be the best PG Drew has ever had, possibly. We'll get a probably 4 total transfers, two of them big names most likely, and I suspect we'll be very optimistic about the year before it starts. Just remember this time last year it looked like we could lost Drew --- things are not that bad. I think we are like the only school in the country to win a tournament game the last 5 years --- things could be much worse.

We're gonna need way more than 4 transfers. Wright is the only guy back who we will be able to rely (Josh injury recovery) feels like that number is more like 6-7 transfers

In the era of NIL, getting a multi-year guy is one thing. Keeping a multi-year guy is something totally different.

What went down in January?
Rumors that Love was cleared to play by training staff but held himself out.
Fueled by some of Drew's comments when dealing with media questions on Love's status.
