Baylor redshirt junior guard Langston Love will enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal; it was first reported by Jeff Goodman. The Universal City, Texas native spent four injury-riddled seasons in Waco as part of head coach Scott Drew’s program and has one year left to play at his next stop.

Love averaged 8.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists across 20 games this season; he has played in 74 games throughout his Baylor career.

He was a front-runner for the Big 12’s Sixth Man of the Year award in 2023-2024 and was averaging 11 points per game on 48% shooting from beyond the arc before an ankle injury cut his season to a close after 24 games.

Love was a four-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class out of Montverde Academy. He missed the entire 2021-2022 season with a torn ACL. The following year, an eye injury forced him to miss three of Baylor’s final four games, and he logged just five minutes in the NCAA Tournament against No. 14-seeded UC Santa Barbara.

After the aforementioned ankle injury forced him to miss 13 of the Bears’ final 15 games in 2023-2024, a lengthy recovery from offseason surgery lingered into the start of the 2024-2025 season, forcing Love to play in just eight of Baylor’s first 22 contests.

That's good. For the best for both parties. Baylor needs to make wiser investments with NIL money.
Not a good move for Baylor. He is a very good player...starting at the end of the year. I do not know about nil but he will be missed. He could have a great year next year.

This was a mutual parting of ways that was destined to happen for both sides after everything that went down in January. Best wishes for Langston and thank you for your contributions.

What went down in January?
Rumors that Love was cleared to play by training staff but held himself out.
Fueled by some of Drew's comments when dealing with media questions on Love's status.

Yes but as it was then I think most people trusted he felt he needed more time and not that he didn't want to play

We're gonna need way more than 4 transfers. Wright is the only guy back who we will be able to rely (Josh injury recovery) feels like that number is more like 6-7 transfers
Ya perhaps you're right. That's a lot of money to spread around though. What I was thinking is that in addition to Rob Wright (starter) and Carr (potential starter or at least rotation piece), it would be great if Jason A could become a solid rotation piece off the bench as well. The more of these guys they can keep on the team to develop and maintain some semblance of continuity and culture, the better. If Jason A develops, and with Tounde coming in, that's 4 rotation players and perhaps you can get away with adding 4 more transfers (assuming you can't count on Josh O which is what I would expect). Of course it would be much better to have 9 rotation pieces you could trust. Not sure if there's any change Ndjonga could become a rotation piece by next year or possibly even Marino (I'm guessing no based on what we've seen). So I suppose if we don't lose anyone else I would expect at least 5 transfers, one more if we lose Jason A. Someone mentioned Celestine coming back but I didn't think he had eligibility. He would of course be another piece if I'm wrong about that.

I know yall will hate me, but my prediction: there will be hype about transfers and what not. We roll into next year looking like a killer squad, we won't play as a team, just throw shots up at the backboard with no touch at none of the right angle's, we'll start losing games. end up with a season similar to this. business as usual since winning the natty. ousted in the first or second round. drew faces what he already knows, this toilet bowl flushing, round and round, he's bored and banging his head against the wall, and he leaves.

Anyone else notice that we don't really have a three point assassin like we had consistently years ago? it was always a staple of the program. we might not have been good at a lot of things, but we always had a dude who could hit three's like crazy. just catch and shoot , or stop and pop. seems like we aint had that since Macio teague.

Josh O will not develop and will not be any better as a senior than he was as a freshman, just like the other big man we had recently for like six years who literally left worse than when he started . i cant even think of his name but i was so glad when he was finally gone. i think my mind just blacked out his name because it was so frustrating.

we miss cryer. we miss Tang.
hell, even Dain Dainja is out there crushing it.
Love had some bright moments, but he had just as many, if not more, *** moments. not to mention we supported and waited for him through his injuries. this just sends a bad signal to me for him to do this immediately after elimination. something is up within the program.

and can we please stop abbreviating the word Freshman with Frosh? it saves you 3 letters. I get it, it probably started in 1920's newspaper reporting when some reporter needed an abbreviation, but lets make it end with us. we can do this.

This was expected imo. But boy are we going to need to load up in the portal. Pivotal off season upcoming.
The cupboard is as bare as it was when Drew took over. Langston never got a break here, with the injuries. I wish him better luck if he goes elsewhere.

Pretty sure Drew didn't have a 5-star freshman coming in when he took over.
That team still had Harvey and Terrance Thomas, who made us somewhat competitive with 31ppg. We have minimum 5 players to replace, as many as left with the Bliss firing.

We went 8-21 Drew's first year. You really think we could crater that much?
We are in pretty good position to miss the post season. Awful enough for you?

Wish we fans had more heart for our players. They all come here to do well for Baylor. Many of them also come here with some measure of hope for a possible professional career. None of them want to fail.

Love hurt the team by not playing through an injury. Most thought that he coasted when he could have played.

I do agree that the program has really been sliding since the championship year. I have lost a lot of confidence in the direction of this program. Hope Drew can regain some of the old momentum.

I think you're seeing this too negatively.

He jumped in "immediately" because that's when the portal opened. Clearly, he's known for a while what he was going to do - whether that was his decision, Baylor's, or a mutual one doesn't really matter.

Business decisions are the reality of NIL. If you're Love, why not enter right away and try to find as good of a deal as you can? If you're Baylor, how do you justify spending NIL on someone with Love's injury history, filling a roster spot that could otherwise be dangled at a healthier replacement with better upside?

When healthy, he was a really good player.

Did he and the staff just get cross over his injury / return timetable? We could really use a returning veteran on next year's roster, even if he is hurt part of the season. Bet we have 4-6 roster slots next year doing next to nothing.

It truly is a shame continual injuries, including the big one -- the blown out ACL -- took away this level of ability.

We had 4 four scholarship players who did not play this year. One has not played in 2 years. Yet Langston was the focus of all the screed on this forum and elsewhere.

Unless he magically stays healthy an entire year he's not worth what he will be capable of earning in NIL, and we can't over pay a guy who will average 10 mpg for about half a season. Financially he doesn't make sense on our team. In the current era it doesn't make sense to have guys like him on the roster.

Add that with he's another player apparently unhappy with our training staff and it's obvious he'll leave.

Bear2 and I had a convo on a thread about that. I'm in the same boat. A growing pains year wouldn't be the worst thing. Get a bunch of multi year guys in and start building for the long term gain.

In the era of NIL, getting a multi-year guy is one thing. Keeping a multi-year guy is something totally different.
It doesn't seem to be nearly as hard for other programs as it's been for us.

Just looking at the Sweet Sixteen teams, Houston, Duke, Purdue and Michigan State have like 70-plus percent homegrown rotations, and Tech has kept many of its key transfers for multiple years.

I struggle to understand why we are utterly incapable of retaining or developing talent in this era, when so many other programs are finding ways to do so.

Anyone who watched Love play when he returned could tell that -- even if cleared to play -- he was FAAAAAARRRRRR from 100 percent. He was moving like my 69-year-old dad out there. It's hard to blame him for not wanting to advertise the impact of his many lower leg injuries.

They pretty much all either come to and/or stay at Baylor for the paycheck at this point. It's that way everywhere now.

They want to get paid like pros, they get treated like pros. That's how this works.

The players didn't create this mess. NCAA idiots let this happen by decades of using player pictures without compensation. The court case was a train coming right at them for 10 years. You think they could have made a move to protect the game? The old NCAA leadership walked out just prior to this with huge retirement packages.

Once it became a free for all, can't blame players and families for trying to get what was being offered.

I agree with you, in general. I've said as much in multiple threads.

But when you start collecting hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars, of other people's money, you get held to higher account. Don't like it, give the money back and play Division III.

In an environment where monetary compensation is the primary -- if not only -- priority/consideration, you're going to face higher production expectations/standards. That's just the way the world works. People expect more of professionals than they do amateurs.

Agreed, so long as we keep a certain level of dialogue. Baylor fans need not transform themselves into NYJ fans in talking about players. Kansas and KSU players were getting hate messages recently. We can be better than that.

I agree with this. Don't be a jerk or make personal attacks. But sober talk about a player's contributions/performance/potential is perfectly within bounds IMO.
