Two of our resident experts — Grayson Grundhoefer and Colt Barber — answer some of the top questions surrounding head coach Dave Aranda and the Baylor program as spring football kicks into full gear.
Which player have you heard the most positive things about this spring?
Colt: The name that keeps popping up in conversations for me is Northwestern senior safety transfer Devin Turner. His size and physicality are things that haven’t been present under head coach Dave Aranda in a few years at the safety position.
Considering his efforts in the Big 10, it’s unsurprising that the 6-foot-2, 212-pound prospect has been turning heads this spring and matches well with Devyn Bobby (Sr.) next to him.
At times, one-year transfers are difficult to value, but if he can be a physical thumper like Baylor hasn’t had coming downhill, that is massive for the run defense and the middle of the field passing game. Baylor has struggled in that area of the field, and Turner’s style could help it a ton.
Grayson: Well, I was going to go with Brendan Bett, but obviously that isn’t going to work for this one anymore after he entered the transfer portal yesterday. I have mentioned a few others this offseason, but let’s go with Northwestern safety Devin Turner, as he has probably been the player I have heard the most buzz about all spring.
He has been a true difference maker, which is what Baylor was expecting. His size and physicality are two areas that have been mentioned a lot. He has no problem being physical in the box, and his length is a real asset in coverage. He has had multiple interceptions in scrimmages and has been around the football a ton. I expect a lot from him for this season to help Baylor’s secondary grow and develop in a big way for the 2025 season.
