Welcome back! It’s time to project the Big 12 season for every team once again. Over the next couple of weeks, I will go through the entirety of the upcoming season for each team in the Big 12, pick the conference champion and make bowl projections.
Obviously, there is still a lot that can change, but barring significant injuries for any of the teams, we are in a good spot for some predictions. With that said, let's do this!
Baylor vs. Arizona State, Saturday, Sept. 20 at McLane Stadium
If both teams perform well early in the season, this game will likely be selected for College Gameday in week four. Both would likely be right around the top 10 if that is the case, so it would make for a great atmosphere in Waco.
Coming into the season, I believe Arizona State is the most complete team the Bears will face during the 2025 season. When compared to the rest of the Big 12, you can make the case that they have a top-three quarterback, a top-three wide receiver, a top-three offensive line, a top-three defensive line and the best secondary in the conference.
It’s also important to remember that the Sun Devils are coming into this game with momentum and confidence following their College Football Playoff appearance a year ago. Some will say this is a bad thing, but I think it will give them significant confidence this season, even if they don’t achieve the same level of success as last year.
The Bears have been really good in the early season, but the magic runs out in a very close game against the Sun Devils. Baylor turns it over a couple of times, and Sam Leavitt takes advantage of the Bears' secondary consistently, allowing them to hold onto the football for long drives. I think Arizona State starts strong and Baylor battles to keep up, but isn’t able to get over the hump.
- Prediction: Baylor 31, Arizona State 34
