Welcome to the 2025 post-week 0 edition of the SicEm365 Premium “Big 12 Power Poll”. Over the last few days, the awesome members of our Premium Forums had access to a simple form to rank the football teams of the Big 12, however they saw fit, heading into week 1 of the 2025 season.
Here are the results:
The sunshine pumpers have cooled off a bit. Or perhaps they did not feel the need to participate this week? We had 57 responses this week compared to 75 last week, but let’s go ahead and dive into the numbers. As I did last week, I removed the top 5% and bottom 5% of placements for each team just to make sure no single response skewed the data too much.
There were plenty of small changes that make sense given the change in respondents. Baylor moving down to No. 2 is notable as this is a poll of Baylor fans, but I chalk that up to heightened nerves ahead of the season opener against a solid SEC squad.
Iowa State’s 24-21 win over Kansas State sent the two preseason contenders for the conference crown in different directions. Avery Johnson and the KSU offense did not look great in that sloppy game, making their three-spot drop understandable. Iowa State won a key game in the race to Arlington, so the two-spot bump was expected.
Similarly, as a middle-of-the-pack team, Kansas’ dominance of Fresno State helped them easily jump a BYU team that has a far less proven quarterback situation.
The drop of Cincinnati is interesting, and as an individual who is higher on the Bearcats, I would love to hear why I should doubt that team more in the comments! Perhaps Willie Fritz and Mike Gundy are just too tough to doubt compared to Scott Satterfield.
Now, if you’re someone who likes to dabble in simple statistics, I also pulled the min, max and mode for each team. That is the top rank, the bottom rank and the most common ranking. I did not remove the top 5% and bottom 5% of placements for best, worst and most common here (but I did for the average rank, so sorry for any confusion).
We went from 6 teams with a first-place vote down to just three this week: Arizona State, Baylor and Iowa State. Opinions typically do consolidate once games start being played.
And as always, the best and worst ranks — particularly the disparity between them — is a fun thing to look at in this conference.
If you want even more numbers, I’ve got them! How about the differences between the preseason rankings and the post-week 0 rankings?
Once again, remember that overall responses were down by 18, so there were 18 fewer data points and 18 fewer votes for first place, for instance.
With all of those numbers and charts and graphs provided to you, where do you draw the lines for tiers in the Big 12? Which teams are the premium members underestimating or overestimating?
One last question: how did the staff of SIcEm365.com do with their rankings this week? Below is the full breakdown of our individual responses to the poll.
Let us know what you think in the comments, and for you premium members, look out for the next Big 12 Power Poll on Tuesday, September 2nd, after the week one games for all Big 12 teams!
Thanks for making me wait until Tuesday, TCU!
