Carr Continues Torrid Start as Baylor Takes Care of Tarleton State, 94-81
WACO, Texas – Baylor basketball (3-0) recorded its third straight win to open the season with a 94-81 victory over the Tarleton State Texans (2-3) on Friday night at Foster Pavilion.
Forward Cameron Carr continued his torrid start to the season with 27 points and three blocks on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor, including 3-for-6 from deep.
Baylor had a solid shooting night overall, shooting 58% from the field (33-of-57), 41% from beyond the arc (11-of-27) and 85% from the charity stripe (17-of-20).
Four other Bears scored in double figures in the win: Isaac Williams IV (16 points, five assists), Obi Agbim (14 points, five assists), Dan Skillings (13 points, seven rebounds, five assists) and Tounde Yessoufou (12 points).
Where Baylor struggled, however, was guarding Tarleton State guard Dior Johnson, a former four-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class who started his college career at Clarendon College before spending his sophomore campaign at UCF.
Johnson was unstoppable on Friday night, dropping a career-high 42 points on 17-of-24 shooting, the most points scored in the Foster Pavilion in its short history.
Baylor also had 15 turnovers that led to 21 Tarleton State points and was decisively beaten on the glass, 34-21, as center Caden Powell battled foul trouble and the flu, totaling just eight minutes after recording a double-double last Sunday in the win over Washington.
The Bears (3-0) will resume play against No. 23 Creighton (2-1) on Monday, Nov. 24, in the Players’ Era Tournament at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The game is set for 1 p.m. and will be televised on truTV.
