Baylor (10-4; 0-2) drops a game to No. 3 Iowa State (15-0; 2-0) 70-60. Tamin Lipsey (24 points) and Joshua Jefferson (19 points, 17 rebounds) led the Cyclones to a road win. Cameron Carr went for 17 points in a losing effort.

Positives:

  • Defensive effort was good most of the game. The Bears hold the Cyclones to a season low 1.01 points per possession.
  • James Nnaji continues to be a disruptor in the paint. He only recorded one block and five rebounds, but he definitely impacts the game with his length.
  • Caden Powell was tough off the bench for the Bears. Powell notches another double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds).

Concerns:

  • Tounde Yessoufou’s defense is tough to watch. Lots of lapses and missed assignments.
  • Fourteen turnovers are a tough number, especially when so many of them were the tentative ones that led to transition points for the other team.
  • The offense has stalled terribly in the last two games. Baylor faced two good defenses, but the Bears seem to be operating the offense side-to-side and ending up with bad shot attempts.
  • Obi Agbim and Michael Rataj continue to struggle against top-level competition. Agbim’s 2-14 from the field was brutal. I do like his defensive effort, though.
  • This team doesn’t look like an NCAA Tournament team. The program is not in a good spot right now.
