but also the PR gaffes in handling a difficult situation

What happened?

He's essentially turned the Kansas St media, Kansas St fans and portions of the national media against him with the way he's handled any criticism over the past two years.

I guess that's the part of the job assistants get somewhat shielded because head coaches like Drew take all the heat. So, maybe the assistant is not prepared once he gets the head job and steps into the line of fire, then reacts defensively instead of stepping back and thinking about the whole picture. At last count, he's had to come back and apologize at least 4 times I can think of off the top of my head in the past 3 months alone. This week was his latest apology and from what I noticed on social media earlier he just fanned the flames again after the TCU loss today. He now even has ex KSU players calling for his head.

At least they showed some fight and that they're capable of playing some decent ball
Really just makes this season so maddening; if they had played like this all year no way they're 3-8

In the grand scheme, maybe. But this is proof that the improvement we've made the last two games is actually improvement. And that is encouraging.

This team is improving and gaining some confidence. Unfortunately, it's probably happening too late to amount to much.

We've got to win one or both of the next two to have much chance of salvaging anything as far as reaching the NCAA tournament, which is obviously going to be very difficult. But this would have been a blowout loss if played two or three weeks ago.

Candidly this is why I'm not sure you want him back, it's clear he doesn't have his finger on the pulse of the game. Seems like he needs time off to collect himself. He is proving he can't handle the pressure cooker. And k state is a job with almost zero pressure.

It's possible that Tang rose one rung beyond what he's good at. The Peter Principle.
