Five-Star PG Dylan Mingo Commits to Baylor, Bolsters 2026 Class with Elite Talent

Five-star Long Island Lutheran (NY) point guard Dylan Mingo has committed to head coach Scott Drew and Baylor men’s basketball and becomes the second commitment in the 2026 recruiting class, joining four-star wing Elijah Williams.

Mingo stands at 6-foot-5 and has a 6-foot-10 wingspan; he is a composite top-five prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, and a consensus top-10 recruit according to all national sites.

His brother, Kayden, transferred to Baylor this offseason after averaging 13.7 points, 4.3 assists and 3.5 rebounds across 28 starts for the Nittany Lions this season as a true freshman.

Mingo earned first-team all-circuit recognition at the 2025 Nike EYBL, averaging 20.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.8 steals per game, but has struggled to stay healthy since then.

Mingo went to Long Island (NY) Lutheran, which is the same high school former Baylor Bear and current Philadelphia 76er VJ Edgecombe attended. Mingo originally chose North Carolina over Baylor, but decommitted after the Tar Heels fired head coach Hubert Davis.

If Isaac Williams is considered a point guard, does this now give us three point guards on next seasons roster? Anyway, way to take advantage of North Carolina's situation!

Even if he is one-and-done -- I'm hearing it's likely he plays next year -- I don't think it would be a big deal because we'd theoretically have the opportunity to bring back every other scholarship player from next year's roster except for Chatman. And if the "five for five" deal goes through next year, he could be back, too.

Having one or two one-year players on your roster isn't a problem. The problem comes when virtually everyone on your roster is a one-year player.

I'm going to be optimistic and say that our recent shift in recruiting and player retention marks a legitimate philosophy change and that our days of reshuffling the deck every year are behind us. If so, it wouldn't hurt to have a couple of one-year players every year to meet specific needs -- or in the case of Mingo, add a much-needed high-ceiling talent.

I don't think so. I would consider myself more on the "half empty" side if the spectrum, and I'm excited to see what next year's team looks like in action.

It helps in my opinion that we've got some familiar names to root for, even if most of them haven't seen the court for us in game action.

Isaac Williams is one of my favorite Baylor players since the title team, and I'm pumped to see what Bodo Bodo, Perez and Soyoye look like off redshirt seasons.

You never know what will happen, but I think there's reason to be optimistic. If nothing else, we're trying to do something different than we have the past several years, which is cause enough for celebration in my mind.

Loading up on scoring guards was a winning recipe for the Title team. Hopefully our bigs can hold their own with solid defense, rebounding and finishing around the rim when the guards penetrate and dish.
