Athlon Sports says Baylor will be on wrong side of 2018 upset

Athlon Sports: Ranking the starting QBsWR unit ranked among best in nationCharlie Brewer the Heisman Candidate Baylor set for big upset in 2018Brewer set for breakout season | Mims a top 10 WR nationally | Rhule ranked against national coaches

Coming shortly after one Athlon Sports writer predicted Baylor to upset one of their biggest Big 12 rivals this fall, a second writer says that the Bears will be on the wrong side of an upset in 2018 that would make most Baylor fans cringe... similar to Texas in 2016.

According to JP Scott, the Bears will fall short to Kansas in the midst of a 4-0 start for the Jayhawks  to open the 2018 season. Along with Baylor, which Scott calls a "slight upset" despite the Bears 38-9 road victory last year in Lawrence, Kansas will also upset the gauntlet of Nicholls State, Central Michigan and Rutgers

Scott wrote:

"Despite this program's recent struggles, there is some low-key talent on the roster -- especially on offense. They've got a lot of options in the backfield at both quarterback and running back, some talented, experienced receivers and a couple of returning starters on the offensive line. Defensively, the Jayhawks field a unit full of upperclassmen, including some future NFL players in defensive lineman Daniel Wise and linebacker Joe Dineen Jr. They'll take down Nicholls State, Central Michigan, and Rutgers and then pull off a slight upset at Baylor to start the year."

In fairness, Scott did call his list of Big 12 predictions "outrageous" and likely new there would be plenty of clicks. And who knows, maybe something that no one sees coming will actually happen.

The Bears haven't lost to the Jayhawks since the 2007 season when the lost to the No. 20-ranked Jayhawks 58-10 in Lawrence. The Jayhawks went on to finish the season 12-1 with a win over No. 3 Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl.

It would be interesting and informative if there could be a check up on the accuracy of the different sports writers that predict the season.

But if such a study it is done, it might spoil all the fun in believing these writers actually have prediction cred. That would be bad for the summer football mag/sites business.

That would be a minor cringe compared to the upsets of Baylor losing to the powerhouses of Liberty and UTSA in back to back games.

My guess is we will win 4% of our games. Kind of like 80's winning 4% of the votes. Shame.

We'll beat Kansas like a rented mule.
