Stanford WBB Anna Wilson & brother Seattle QB Russell Wilson

Nov 25, 2018

"No. 8 Stanford eased its way to another victory Sunday, but an injury to Bellevue High graduate Anna Wilson late in its basketball game against Hawaii in Honolulu weighed heavily on the team.

Wilson, a junior guard and the sister of Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, fell backward and hit a chair while playing defense, according to Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer. Wilson remained down on the court for about 20 minutes while medical personnel attended to her. They stabilized her neck before she was taken to a hospital.

A scan came back "clear" for Anna Wilson and she was set to join the team on its red-eye flight home, according to a university spokesman. Game officials and coaches decided to end the Rainbow Wahine Showdown game with 48.2 seconds left and the Cardinal ahead 81-59.

"Our number one priority is Anna Wilson's health and I think what happened is just unfortunate. In the last minute of the game, people are playing hard and there was nothing involved except for just an accident," VanDerveer said of the sequence in front of the Hawaii bench. "She kind of got tripped up a little bit and fell back into the chair, so we're all very concerned about her health and pray for her to be healthy. She's a great young lady and for all of our team, it kind of dampens the three games that we played and obviously the game that we played today against Hawaii."

Here at Stanford with the DeCosta family. Mr. Bickell showed up, too.

I would post a pic if I could figure it out.

At some point we are going to have to defend the arc. We have seen this game in March for about 5 years in a row. It would be nice to make some of our own too. Nobody on the floor right now can shoot. The shot selection and lack of floor awareness from the freshmen is a problem.
