There is no chemistry on this team...yet! Not really a bad loss. They looked out of sync, but you gotta have Cox and Brown in the game. If you are going to the big dance then you gotta play those from now on. If this were fottball she would have had to leave them in, but you can afford a loss like this to give the frosh experience against a good team. And let's face it that Coffee and Smith were deadly and would not have mattered who you put on them. We do have trouble against a good 3 pt shooting team though but we should not because we can afford to go guard them with Brown and Cox in the lane. Not enough hustle, etc. They will get better and learn from this. Expect a helluva game vs. UCONN.

Well they were ready for the USC environment. I dont think it was the environment but there was no sense of urgency in the 1st half. Don't think Mulkey should have kept Brown and Cox out that long to win the game. I think she was sending a msg that she will play frosh if her stars are not producing, but sometimes you gotta let them play through the bad spurts. I think you can look at this game 2 ways. The loss means nothing but the frosh moments were good to see. I don't wanna see this by the UCONN game however, Cox and Brown are this team and that is our identity so win or lose with them both.

I agree that Mulk just doesn't seem to have that fire in her anymore for whatever reason. We've had the talent for several years. The game has changed. Today's youth have changed. You can't keep the same strategy that worked years ago. These kids don't identify with that style. Perhaps that's why we can't get that Elite 8 monkey off our back.

Looking at the post game box score, I still wish we did better on threes on both ends, but the real story is that we just couldn't shoot in the first half. Some of that was good defense, a lot was poor shot selection, but mostly the shooters just never got a rhythm. The quarter where Kim played the freshmen really made the difference. I don't really mind that, because they have to learn somehow, but there is a lot of room to grow there.

If you had told me that Brown and Cox would be that invisible, would've expected a 20 point blowout. Some others did step up down the stretch. If that continues, and the big girls make the usual contributions, we will be fine. Chloe will grow as a point guard, because she is still pretty raw there. She is at her best when she takes a scorers attitude, but that isn't always what we need. I'm also ready to see Smith start. She always brings the spark and makes plays.

I think having Cox and Brown both on the floor is a liability on defense. Neither are quick enough to guard athletic post players. Uconn's quickness is gonna kill us with both of them on the floor at the same time. Before it would be easy to say that teams would also have trouble matching up against them too but they showed tonight that that's not quite the case. I would rather see Cox and Brown split time at the 5 and Smith and Decosta split time at the 4. The both of them in just clogs things up and will not be effective against the more athletic teams in the tourney.

We shot well from the FT line! 16-20...Smith and Jackson and Juicy all played well in the second half....Didi played hard. Cox and Brown were both just not good today....either one of them play their normal game and we win....

First game I have been forced to listen to on the radio. This new crew is terrible. Kim has to really work on the radio broadcast. Very under par for a top program. Time to get Rick May healthy and back on the broadcast.

Scoring lineup, long term, includes either Kalani or Cox only on floor. That's line that'll score enough points to come back in a game like this. Young ones aren't experienced enough to make that go yet but they would be if allowed to play with either Kalani or Cox resting. Team is waaaaayyyy too slow with Kalani and Cox on court together against good teams

UCONN wins by 10-15 maybe 20 if Kim persists like this.

It is way too early to be thinking this way, but if Morris returns next year at her previous level we will be better able to deal with teams that try to beat us in this fashion. Replacing Brown with Smith will bring a lot more athleticism on defense, and having a true PG in Morris will enable us to do a bit more on offense while hopefully minimizing turnovers. We will also be able to deploy 4-5 three point threats on the floor at the same time. If Kim chooses to use them in this way they could be dynamic on both ends of the floor.

In the first half the team looked lost on the offensive and defensive end.

Mulkey was barking at them assignments and the team looked lost at times. Standing around on offense. Missed shots hitting the floor instead of being attacked for rebounds.

Second half was different, but Stanford put Brown in bad positions on defense and then tripled her on offense. She never adjusted.

Cox must have had an issue as she was moving on defense, but offense she was also doubled and nobody was moving for her to kick it back out to on the outside.

Shooting 18% in the first half is not being ready for the environment, to me. Shots weren't falling and the leading scorer had 5 points.

I agree. The only time I heard them was for the game against, I think Georgetown. It didn't even sound like they were part of the team. Guess it also goes along with what was done with BaylorBears.com. That website to me is now worthless. Can't find anything there anymore when I want information or want to follow a game.

Cost cutting the reason? I know that Rick wanted to retire, but that doesn't explain the poor replacements and the website..

If the trend continues, those who always complained about John Morris will wish they hadn't got what they wanted since he is retiring. Who knows what we will end up with next year.

If this team shows up, UConn will blast them.

Something doesn't seem right currently. SDSU showed the kinks in the armor. Now a better and more athletic team in Stanford drove the nail home. Will the Lady Bears fall out of the top 10?

I never had a problem with either. Rick was knowledgeable and had real emotion and concern for the team. It seemed to be more than a job to him.

Doubt it, but it really doesn't matter. The committee never gave Baylor any props even when they were in the top four. I would bet however, that if it was Notre Dame that had lost today to Stanford that they would drop no more than 1 or 2 slots. Just the way it works. But at this point it doesn't matter where they are ranked. Too early in the season to matter. What matters is how they play from this point forward. (Might also add that SDSU only lost to Oregon by 8.)

Bad games happen. What we don't know is what was the problem with Cox (especially) and Brown today.

Rick did an excellent job, but his size and the difficulty of travel caught up with him. He would be a good candidate for ban surgery.

I feel like a lot of the problems stem from not having a true PG. Well coached teams are able to exploit that into turnovers, and it contributes to removing Brown and Cox from the game. It happened against Arizona State and then again today. Early turnovers keep us out of rhythm and turn into easy buckets the other way. Before we know it we are down. We came back against Arizona State because we have superior athletes, but we got too far down this time. With Morris this game would've been a clean win in my opinion.

The girls couldn't hit water from the Titanic in the first half. The why is the reason they lost.

The reason we lost is the same reason we lost every March for last 6 years. Talented team shots 3s always will beat in a big game on road or netural, which is NCAA. Today we actually shot 7 3s, high for us, made 3. Stanford makes 13, beats us by 5. Do the math.

Same story every March. We overwhelm less talented teams, see Big 12, will get beat in the end of the year by talented teams who can shoot the 3.

Either KM can't see this or doesn't care. Both are concerning.

Shooting 30% in the first half would have won it as well.

I know Lori caught flack for a statement she put out by members during all the mess, but I don't think I saw any on her work with the Lady Bears.

I wasn't checking Fans back then.

You are not correct...you may think you are but you are not...we lost because our two all-American posts both had bad games today...we shot the ball poorly and we just stunk it up for a half....you can say that another team making threes beat us but if you really study the stats we beat ourselves by not making our shots we normally make and not playing hard or focused for one entire half...we still only lost by 5 on the road to a very good well coached team...PAC 12 really has our number. A lot of learning today by the freshman but am certainly disappointed with our leaders Cox and Brown....

Not really mad at you, know that a lot of folks share your opinion about shooting more threes but long term you can't do that when you have the scoring punch of Brown and Cox inside...
Bear in AL

I agree with earlier posts describing our struggles on the offensive end. It seemed like players were just standing around. There didn't seem to be any motion offense.

I think opponents now have 3-plus years of film to watch and plan for Kalani's footwork and moves. When they crowd the paint or sink inside on Kalani, we don't seem to have planned for other options. When Kalani is triple-teamed like she was several times today, where are the cutters to the basket who have to be open?

As to leadership, it doesn't seem like we have a real leader for this team from a players point of view. I'd like to see Kalani, Lauren, and Chloe take the leadership mantle and run with it.

We shot 43% on treys, but horrible on all other shots the first half, so why not shoot more out there? It is very difficult to closely guard treys, but not so hard to pack the paint.

did you see how many inside shots we missed...we only had to make three more and we win...typically we will shoot much better than we did close to the basket. We also generated 20 FT attempts if we had started jacking threes we would not have had as many FT opportunities...we were 16-20. We also out rebounded them 43 -30 held them to under 39% FG. that means they took 30 threes and made 13 and shot 30 twos and made 10. we were clearly the dominate team inside but we just missed shots...I think we shot like 19% in the first half and 34% overall so we shot very well the second half if we do the same both half's we walk out with the win.

Look I get it they hit threes at a good % and beat us...but the point I make is they can do that every game against us and we win 8-10 times because we just are not going to miss that many shots inside or play as bad a first half as we did. Standford played well and shot the three well but we were and are the better built team to win and we will wind up with more wins than Stanford end of year and a higher seed in tournament. Barring something unforeseen.
bearbone11
How long do you want to ignore this user?
A stat I just saw that stood out to me was that we had 3 second chance points on 12 offensive rebounds. That is just crazy. We did the work securing the boards, but consistently failed to get the putback. How many times did we get a rebound under the rim and then miss a layup? That was probably the most physical game we have seen yet and it showed.
