Baylor Rewinds of the Week: 3/17
Thanks to COVID-19 many people are staying at home and practicing social distancing with no sports entertainemnt to watch. Since March Madness was cancelled there has been this need to watch some of the best re-runs possible. So if you are looking to quench that need each week while we wait you can check out my Games of the Week on SicEm365. Some weeks will be old school flashbacks, others will be super recent and then some will be a mix. This week is a loaded list of some of my favorite Baylor matchups I have watched in person to go along with an amazing comeback. So sit back and enjoy some of the best Baylor matchups ever as the weeks progress!
Let’s check out the games for this week...
2018 Texas Bowl (Baylor vs. Vanderbilt)
Ah yes the first bowl game that Baylor made under head coach Matt Rhule was a special one against Vanderbilt. Neither team played much defense and there were big plays all over the field as there were five touchdowns of over 50 yards. One team had a running back run for 243 yards on just 13 carries and the other team had a QB who would not be denied.
This game was a sign of things to come for the Baylor program under Coach Matt Rhule and where the national media had no choice but to take notice. Also the previous season Baylor went 1-11 so this was an ultimate comeback story.
2014 Baylor vs TCU
This one does not need much of an introduction and it felt kind of far too obvious to put this one on the first list. But I couldn’t help myself because it is flat out the most entertaining game I have ever been to. The teams combined for 1,267 total yards and 119 points scored. One team had six different players score a touchdown and the other had a QB throw for over 500 yards and six touchdowns. There were also four turnovers and 20 penalties for over 200 yards, this one had it all.
It also led to the biggest controversy in College Football Playoff history at the end of the season when Baylor, TCU, and Ohio State were vying for the last spot. This also became the most iconic final score in Baylor football history.
Battle 4 Atlantis Championship 2016 (Baylor vs. Louisville)
Baylor came into this one of the hottest teams in the nation as they were undefeated and had double digit wins over Oregon and Michigan State already in the early par tof the season. Led by a star guard who is making big money in the NBA now, Louisville built a 22 point lead on the Bears. Luckily for the Bears they got an elite half by a guard who had big moments in his Baylor career but perhaps none as big as this one.
Blowout of the Week
2010 NCAA Basketball Regional Semis (Baylor vs. St. Mary’s)
The Sweet 16 in Houston was a great opportunity for Baylor but the early Cinderella’s of the tournament were the Gaels. They had just knocked off 7-seed Richmond and 2-seed Villanova to get to this point and many fans were starting to rally behind them.
On this day though they ran into a buzzsaw which led to 3-seed Baylor building a ridiculous 46-17 lead at half and never looking back. Tweety Carter and Lace Dunn are still in Matthew Dellavedova’s and Mickey McConnell’s nightmares.
