Coach Scott Drew

On the job Jamie Dixon has done at TCU
“He’s done a tremendous job. Brought in a very good staff, added some key recruits that have really done a good job and then they’ve returned a good nucleus. So they got a good combination of experience and some new talent and really played well. Coach Dixon’s a tremendous coach so he’s always gonna give ‘em a chance to be successful.”

On the change of TCU’s play from last season
“More that ol’ Big East. I think, defense-oriented, physical, tough. Like everybody, they’ll take transition buckets but I think they really operate well in the half court defensively and offensively.”

On matching up with TCU’s guard play and in the post

“Their backcourt’s been tremendous and I know with us, we’ve had good guard play this year as well. Inside, they’ve made huge strides as far as player development. Number 10 (Vladimir Brodziansky) might be one of the most improved players in the country.”

On the success of redshirting players more often
“So far it’s (worked.) Cory [Jefferson] was in the NBA and Mot’s really developed and I think you can go up and down the board on guys that have sat out a year, and I think at the end of the day, if they take advantage of the time they have and our staff does a great job."

On the impact of the football rivalry
“It’s already a game I know our fans look forward to and their fans, I’m sure, look forward to. I think TCU’s always been one of our better attended games and I think we’ve probably been one of their better attended games there. Nationally, I’m don’t know if people have talked about it as much but any Big 12 game, we all know, deserves recognition.”

On the greater depth that Nuni Omot brings after the Texas game
“I think that’s the difficulty of depth too, is that some people obviously won’t get the minutes that they want and at the same time, if you need a spark or they are playing well, or the starters aren’t playing as well, it opens things up. You know you have opportunities to get performance off the bench.

Jo Lual-Acuil

On the presence Manu Lecomte brings
“He’s our floor general. He just brings a sense of calm to the team. We all trust him when he has the ball in his hands no matter what’s going on.”

On helping keep Motley in for his 30/20 performance against Texas
“I think it was around the six-minute mark and I was already in foul trouble. And Mot was having a great game, obviously, and he was close to having 30 (points) and 20 (rebounds) or something crazy like that. Coach wanted to sub him so I just decided it’d be better if he just stayed in.”

Johnathan Motley

On his thoughts about redshirting his first year
“When I first heard it, I didn’t really want to heart that, then I was just ready to play. Just wanted to come in and help the team win. But just talked to some people like my mom and just thought it’d be the better thing for me to do, just adding on weight and just getting better playing against Corey (Jefferson), Isaiah (Austin), and Rico (Gathers) everyday to prepare me today where I am now. Looking back on it, I’m thankful I did it.”
