Coach Scott Drew

On Texas Tech’s look
“Very balanced attack. Shooting-wise, Keenan Evans. You can start with him. He’s top-35 in the nation in three-point percentage and somebody when he first got to Tech was more known for his athleticism and getting to the paint and creating for others. Really developed his offensive skills and somebody who’s still really athletic and dangerous in the paint and that’s why he does a great job getting to the free throw line . . . .That outside shot has really added to his game and make them that much tougher to guard.”

On the coaching change to Chris Beard

“Every coach is gonna have a different style. Coach Beard was worked under Pat Knight. Worked under Bob Knight. So defensively he changes things up a lot, changes his press, changes his ball-screen defenses, changes doubling the post and tries to keep you off balance. On the offensive end, does a great job running motion and you can tell he learned under Coach Knight. They execute very well in the half court and very patient, slowest pace in the Big 12.”

On the defense’s contributions to the second half comebacks
“If you’re not getting stops then it’s hard to get into transition, it’s hard to get separation, it’s hard to build on momentum. Definitely, the defensive end has been very important and the rebounding part of that has been very important.”

On reducing turnovers the past few games
“I think West Virginia’s kind of a different situation, a different case. Their whole game plan is designed to where if you try to be deliberate, you try to hold the ball, then you probably turn it over getting trapped.”
“Our transition offense, in the Big 12, has slowly gotten better and taking advantages on three-on-two, four-on-three, two-on-one breaks is real important ‘cause it’s hard to score in the half court against anybody.”

On Manu Lecomte’s importance on defense
“Defensively, he’s really improved. I think [he’s] bigger, stronger, tougher. He’s got good foot speed, does a good job getting over ball screens and he understands the importance of the defensive end.”

Jake Lindsey

On what the team sees in Tech

“Every broadcast of them, first thing everyone says is they’re really old which means they’re really experienced. Their guards both return from last year. Their bigs, we played Anthony Livingston last year against Arkansas State so he’s a good player and then they’ve got bigs who stretch the floor. They do a good job moving the ball, they run a lot of motion. So they’re a tough cover.”

On Tech’s difference from last year
“Keenan Evans made a jump, he’s really shooting the ball well. He shot it really well here last year but I think all their guys are just another year older, another year wiser. . . .When you have another year to play together, it kinda builds camaraderie.”

On what he sees from Manu

“I think the term everyone uses for Manu is he’s really poised. He’s really always on balance on offense and his ability to make shots from anywhere on the floor at anytime really opens up a lot for everyone else on the court. He’s done a good job being more vocal.”

Jo Lual-Acuil

On how the team keeps coming back from behind

“I think we just lock down. I don’t what it is about the second half, but we play better defense in the second half than we do in the first half. I think everyone just gets more comfortable.”

On the impact of the fans

“They do a great job giving us energy, especially when the other team goes on a run. They get loud and we just get stops and feed off ‘em. So they always make a big impact.
