Baylor (1-0) cruised to an easy victory against Louisiana Lafayette (0-1) behind a terrific offensive masterpiece that included 25 assists; 15 three pointers and 1.38 points per possession on the offensive end. Defense needs work but lets enjoy the 30 point win.
Positives
- Guard play was terrific. Baylor’s 5 guards combined for 85 of Baylor’s 112 points and 22 assists. Hard to ask for better debuts from Adam Flagler (12 points and 7 assists) and LJ Cryer (17 points) in a Baylor uniform on the offensive end.
- Unselfish team offensively, really shared the basketball which led to great open shots.
- Outrebounded ULL 41-29 which is good to see especially with Mark Vital in early foul trouble. Vital only grabbed 2 rebounds overall.
- ULL is a team that will contend for their league championship so good to see Baylor give them no hope for the upset.
- Thought Baylor’s bigs- Jonathan Tchatchoua and Flo Thamba crashed the boards with energy. Guards also did a good job rebounding.
- 25 assists to only 10 turnovers
Needs Work
- Free throw shooting (7-13) and finishing around the rim
- Defense... this was our calling card last season and early on, we have a ways to go to get where we need to be and with our next 3 opponents... we better get there fast.
