Looking for ideas..
Go from Vegas through Zion NP, on to Bryce Canyon NP, then drop down to the North Rim of Grand Canyon NP. I have seen Grand Canyon from both rims multiple times (as well as the other parks, and Bryce is amazing), and much prefer the North Rim. You are 1,000 feet higher, the crowds are much less, and if you time it right, you get to see the aspen after they have turned. Just don't wait too late because North Rim closes for winter due to snow. But there is nothing like seeing forests of golden aspen in a light breeze.TechDawgMc said:
Probably not going to get to do it this year, but my "dream trip" is to fly to Vegas, rent a car, go see the Grand Canyon. Then drive over into California to see Sequoia and King's Canyon. After those, go north to Yosemite -- then fly home from San Francisco. Four major national parks in about 10 days.
Of course, that's not a low cost alternative.
Stayed at a great HomeAway location about a mile from Dodger Stadium during 2016. They put onto some great local spots, including Porto's Bakery and Cafe. Were 3 locations, now 4 for this family run Cuban spot. The Stadium is close to Sunset Strip, so print up one of the internet block-by-block guides and drive the entire length.Guy Noir said:
Plan s Road Trip to go to L.A. in June to see the Dodgers play. Then stops in Utah, Wyoming, Kansas on the way back to Dallas. I haven't planed the stops between Dallas and L.A yet.
In August plan to take my wife to Niagara Falls. Not really planned yet.
Any suggestions for those areas of the country?
Thanks for the tip. That sounds like a cool approach to it. I wondered how the two rims would compare. And I love the idea of hitting a bunch of the parks together.Nguyen One Soon said:Go from Vegas through Zion NP, on to Bryce Canyon NP, then drop down to the North Rim of Grand Canyon NP. Crater Lake is awesome. Oregon is too. New England in the summer is cool, think White Mountains, and well before the autumn crowds ruin everything. Destin and New Orleans are my two personal favorites after Crater Lake.midgett said:
Aruba and at least one other trip per my lovely wife!
We took a short trip to Oregon last October. Originally we considered the Caribbean but the hurricanes made us look elsewhere. I recommended Oregon and she thought I was nuts. We've done the drive up PH1 in California a few times and I told her it was an extension of it with a more rugged coast.
She was already planning a return trip before we left. Water falls east of Portland. Crater Lake. Oregon Coast. What a beautiful trip.
My next big new trip is to do an Alaskan cruise. I hope I can get our adult daughters to go. The pics and stories I've heard have sold me.
Do something new if the place, dates and cost work for you.
Beaver's Bend is a nice park. My wife learned to swim there. They do warn you to get out of the creek just before they open the lake dam gates.Judge said:
Wow from Broken Bow, OK to all those wonderful places must be time warp lol
We did Alaska in 2005, going one way from Vancouver to Whittier. Then spent some time in/around Anchorage. Went in mid May, which was important for one of the highlights of the trip. We did an airplane ride from Talkeetna around Denali, including a skis landing at the climbers' base camp. Any later and it would have been too mushy to land there. Amazing trip in every respect. Be sure whatever trip you choose includes a stop at Sitka.midgett said:

Great! By the time we decided to go the lodge was full. That would have been cool. Glad you could do it.Judge said:
Midge,
We're about twenty plus years older and wife couldn't manage the trail down to the lake. Sad. We were very fortunate to secure a room at the lodge as they had a last minute cancellation due to the smoke from the fires last August. This became my favorite place in the USA.
Does Arby's not have a museum? Maybe visit franchises 1-10 in a whirlwind 3-4 days.william said:

Went to Oregon last summer too. My sister used to live in Ashland. If you haven't attended the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, you should. It is outstanding. Hiked all the way down to Crater Lake and back up. My son went cliff jumping into the lake with a bunch of other people. Water was about 55 degrees in July, which surprised me, thought it would be colder.midgett said:

Indeed. Though I'm probably 3% and have earned every penny.bularry said:Gust Avrakotos said:

So this is how the 1% lives
what are y'all doing in SD? Just y'all two or you have kiddos? Friend of mine moved there last year. His pictures certainly don't suck.Gust Avrakotos said:Indeed. Though I'm probably 3% and have earned every penny.bularry said:Gust Avrakotos said:

The fruits of my labor (and my wife's).
would love to see Crater Lake, but when in Oregon hard to get that far away from the Williamette and the wineries!Illinois Bear2 said:Went to Oregon last summer too.
