Daughter got hit by a red light runner…she's okay, car is totaled…now the hunt begins. Anyone want to brag about their car brand?

Nissan's seem to always cost less than you get for the money.

Just my take, but based on the last 11 years of owning one.
That which does not kill me, will try again and get nastier

Used car prices are still very high. For awhile that was due to the rental agencies buying up as many 1-3 year old cars as they could because they sold off a large percentage of their fleets when folks stopped traveling for both business and pleasure. As time moves on, it appears that dealers are in no hurry to return to the market demands of years past. Scour Autotrader often to see the market in your area.

FWIW, two friends (one in a Lexus, the other in an Avalon) along with me in a Volvo have been in pretty serious crashes and walked away with only very minor issues. I certainly recommend studying up on reliability, but there's a lot to be said for crash tests too.

These guys present pretty good information almost daily on YouTube. Good luck.

I've had a Versa for 6 years. Had to change the battery twice and the CV boot once. Odometer pushing 80. Not too bad.

Looking at certified all-wheel drive vehicles since she attends college at West Texas...Nissan, Hyundai, and Kia have good warranties on certified cars...

Nissan is a good car. I bought mine, also used, three years ago, and has never faced any troubles with that car

I purchased a 2017 Nissan Frontier pickup. It was quite a bit less than the GMC Canyon, Chevy Colorado, Toyota Tacoma…. It has 222.000 miles (yeah I've driven. The heck out of it.) it's still rollin with no major issues.

We are at a slow inflection point where electric vehicles are going to disrupt and influence the price of all vehicles.

Polite way of saying that I'm seeing significant price increases in combustion engine parts because the parts markers are now faced with making parts for vehicles that will be technologically obselete.

So bottom line if you're looking really long term, find the most useful EV or hybrid possible.
