There's an old-new face on the Dallas Cowboys' roster. Cowboys sign RB Trey Williams to practice squad

With the suspension (maybe?) of running back Ezekiel Elliott, the team is just fine with the three bodies on the active 53-man roster. Look for veterans Alfred Morris, Darren McFadden and Rod Smith to shoulder the load over the next six games. That does, however, leave the team short one back to help with practice reps.

The 24-year-old journeyman spent time with the Dallas Cowboys in 2015 after being signed away from the Washington Redskins' practice squad. At the time, the move was to replace a waived Joseph Randle, who couldn't get his act together off-the-field. Williams was never seen on the active 46-man game roster, and was eventually waived to make room for quarterback Kellen Moore.

He's since spent time with the Dolphins, Colts and Steelers before heading north to the CFL to play for the Toronto Argonauts. Williams is a local product, hailing from Texas A&M where he rushed for 1,343 yards and 18 touchdowns in 36 games, adding 330 yards in the air and a receiving TD to his resume before the Redskins scooped him as an undrafted free agent.

Cowboys will place Brian Price on injured reserve
Posted by Charean Williams on November 6, 2017, 4:45 PM EST

Cowboys defensive tackle Brian Price will undergo knee surgery Tuesday, with the team placing him on injured reserve, coach Jason Garrett announced Monday.

Price was injured in the fourth quarter Sunday. He played nine snaps and made one tackle.

For the season, Price appeared in all eight games, playing 149 defensive snaps and making eight tackles and three quarterback pressures.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said on his weekly radio show on 105.3 The Fan that the
Cowboys will "have to probably be looking at a replacement there."

The Cowboys claimed Price off waivers from the Packers after Green Bay cut him Sept. 2.

Cowboys OT Smith uncertain for Falcons game

The Cowboys are uncertain about the status of Tyron Smith for Sunday's game against the Falcons. The left tackle has been dealing with a groin injury that sidelined him for part of Dallas' win over Kansas City.

Terrance making a case for '#2 into the future' with that display:

Terrance Williams caught 9-of-9 targets for 141 yards in the Cowboys' Week 9 win over the Chiefs.

The 141 yards were the third most of Williams' five-year career. Including the targets, every total blew away Williams' previous 2017 highs. He took full advantage of the Chiefs' sieve-like defense, though he appeared to tweak his left knee late. With little time remaining, Williams was not announced with an injury, but it's quite possible he misses some practice time ahead of next Sunday's game against the Falcons.
Good to hear

ESPN's Todd Archer reports Cowboys LT Tyron Smith is questionable for Week 10 against the Falcons because of a groin injury.

Smith had been slowed by a back injury over the last month, but he picked up a groin issue against the Chiefs on Sunday. The injury is believed to be minor, but his practice participation will be important to monitor this week. Byron Bell would likely get the nod if Smith cannot play.

Cowboys have played eight total games and scored at least 28 points in the last six games, tying a club record (2007, Tony Romo's first full season as a starter).

The 2016 Cowboys had a five-game streak of 28 points or more. Both those teams (2016, 2007) won 13 games and clinched the best record in the NFC.

The 2017 Cowboys would have to win each of their final eight games to go 13-3, and Ezekiel Elliott's potential six-game suspension still looms. But right now they're challenging teams to score 30 points to beat them, and the way their defense is playing (more on that below), that's no easy task.

I get the feeling that Green is their swing tackle, but only swings to the RT and LG. They love his potential but he just has too many medical conditions going on

With that said, Jonathan Cooper is starting at LG. He's been pretty good the last 2 1/2 games. But having Smitty on your outside shoulder is a lot different from Bell. Wonder if they would switch Zach over to LG and Coop to RG?

If I were Garrett - or Dak for that matter, I would be very concerned having Cooper/Bell on my blindside.

They could run 12 offense I guess - or setup Hanna or Rod Smith as an HBack on that side.

Irving has 6 sacks in his four appearances, which would've given him a league-leading 12 sacks over an eight-game pace.

Here are the current NFL sack leaders and their total games played:

Everson Griffen (10), eight games

The Cowboys have combined for 27 sacks on the season, third-most in the NFL. They're on pace for 54, which would be their most since having 59 in 2008.

I've long debated whether or not that means a team has a good defense or not. Sacks are great, don't mean **** if you can't stop anything else with your defense.

So Rico has NOT returned to practice. Seems he has been working out with strength coach Woijk. Very possible he stays on IR for the rest of the season. Not sure if its from the concussion - or maybe the jaw'/neck issue

Or maybe so they can keep him off the practice squad for the year.

This. They like their other tight ends, but don't want to lose Rico. The moment they put him on the practice squad, he will get plucked by someone.

Dez Bryant (knee, ankle) is not practicing Wednesday. Owner Jerry Jones also failed to provide an update on Bryant this morning, saying he didn't know if Bryant would play against the Falcons. If Bryant sits, the Cowboys would figure to lean even more on Ezekiel Elliott, while Terrance Williams would operate as the No. 1 receiver in a potential shootout.

My guess is that he will be able to play until the NFL trumps the last injunction

And even then I think the NFL will go by its unwritten rule of basically if it isn't decided by like Tuesday of that week you play in the that week's game.

The first hearing in Ezekiel Elliott's "expedited appeal" before the Second Circuit Court of Appeals has been set for Dec. 1. In theory, it means Elliott could maybe have his ban overturned or delayed before it's through in Week 16, but the Dallas Morning News' Kate Hairopoulos who has been all over the case believes it would be a "fast process for whole thing to be completed within the six weeks." Right now, Elliott seems likely to serve all six games before the Second Circuit can decide on the merits of his appeal. That, of course, would make any victory more symbolic than anything else.

NFL Network's Jane Slater reports Cowboys LT Tyron Smith (groin) is expected to miss Week 10 against the Falcons. One "person with knowledge of the situation" told Slater, "I'll be surprised if he plays through it." Smith suffered the injury in last week's win over Kansas City. Bryon Bell and Chaz Green are candidates to start in his place.

Alfred Morris is the Cowboys' likely Week 10 starter at running back with Ezekiel Elliott's six-game suspension back in place. As was the case in Week 9 before Elliott's ban was once again delayed, Morris will get the first chance at establishing the "hot hand." Third-year UDFA Rod Smith is expected to be the second man up, followed by Darren McFadden.

And his next hearing isn't until 1 Dec so the jig is up as at this point as he will have been suspended 4 of 6 games.
