Baylor Ranked 10th in Preseason USA Today Coaches Poll

Coming off a program record 12-2 season and a Sugar Bowl victory, the Baylor Bears were ranked 10th in the nation by the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Coach Dave Aranda’s Bears received 891 points, which slotted them in the middle of the top three Big 12 teams in the rankings. The Oklahoma Sooners came in at No. 9 with 1027 points, and the Oklahoma State Cowboys ended up at No. 11 with 859 points.

It is a tight grouping, and given the scope of the poll and the consistent recruiting success, it should come as no great surprise that Oklahoma edged out Baylor.

The green and gold topped the Sooners in the Big 12 media’s preseason poll for the first time this year.

Elsewhere in the Big 12 and in the state of Texas, the Longhorns garnered 383 points, good for 18th nationally. Though they did receive a single first-place vote. The Texas A&M Aggies came in at No. 7 with 1219 points, and the Houston Cougars were ranked No. 25 with 257 votes.

Here is why Baylor and OSU have a chance to move up.

Clemson - not sure the glory days aren't behind them. New DC, too.
ND -perpetually over ranked
Michigan - blue blood program given way too much credit
A&M - best at winning the recruiting wars. Will beat a top 5 team and lose to an unranked team
Utah - not a chance except they play in the easiest league in the nation
OU - 16 transfers, new QB, new OC, new DC and new head coach. Not a chance. They lose at least 3, maybe 4 this year.

BYU travels to South Florida to play the week before Baylor. Should be as easy as Albany. BYU vs. Baylor shaping up to be a big game.
