Losing on the road to a ranked team is not the end of the world….but we just continued to hand this game to BYU.

116 yards of penalties is not supposed to be who we are now.

If Shapen can't run….and we don't trust him to throw….I'm not understanding letting go the QB that led us to 12 wins and our highest ever final season ranking.

Yeah. Somethings got to be up with Shapen. But like someone else said, why not give Drones a shot? Agreed though about the loss.. we could have lost at home to an unranked/FCS team. At least losing at ranked BYU in 2OT is more respectable than that. Way too many penalties tonight.. blew so many opportunities. Got a lot to cleanup this week. It'll be interesting to see what adjustments are made for next game.

I wonder what The Velveteen Rabbit has to say about that offensive game plan?

At least we didn't have to endure super questionable crop top choices in the stands.

Excuses will be made, and will trot out the same 1930's style offense next week and the weeks to follow

I really think the issue is at the wide receiver position.

There's certainly merit to this statement, especially with Baldwin out (and probably even with him). But one of the supposedly top olines in the country was also terrible for a half, and our qb was clearly hurt and the coaches decided to play with 10 men rather than sit him

Our fans are ridiculous. You can't blame Shapen for that game. He wasn't given a chance to succeed. The only time we let him pass was in desperation 3rd down plays.

We had the ball near midfield with 2 minutes left in regulation. We proceeded to run the ball 3 straight times. When you are on the road, you have to take the victory and be creative.

Grimes gets an F tonight.

2. defense doesn't have a dude. like the dude who steps up and make the game his. like jalen pitre. like ahmad dixon. we need a dude.

This really stood out to me tonight. We have a very solid defense… But I don't see any real individual game changers on defense right now.

We won't know whether it was playcalling or QB ineptitude, because we have a media that would rather be buddies with the coaching staff than ask tough questions. I'll be shocked if we get any heat on the coaching staff about the putrid playcalling postgame.

I just have no words for that offensive scheme. We ran it 50 times for like 3 yards/carry.

Well Qualan had it going and we just took him out each play. They did not want to hit him.

I don't know about "had it going" but he did average 4.2 yard/carry tonight. Which was sadly the best offensive production we had.

So naturally we only ran him 16 times. We gave Sqwirl, who weighs roughly 75 lbs less, more carries. Damn it Grimes.

There we're moments when the QB pass play was fine, so it's definitely play calling.

What box score are you looking at. He averaged 4 yards per carry. 68 yards on 17 carries.

Last year we averaged 48 penalty yards per game.

Tonight we had 116. I don't know if that on players or coaches.

That holding call on Sims when Sqwirl had the TD in the first OT was a killer. I think Sqwirl was even already past him when he was holding.

I'm gonna be pissed if Grimes reasoning for play calling is that he wants them to be a running team and though it was a good teaching moment to keep at it.

The WR held too. First and goal at the 5. Still can't believe it. We just couldn't get through a drive without penalties.

Yeah, hard to blame Shapen when Grimes wouldn't hand him the keys. Hopefully we'll find out this week why they restricted him so much, but I'm not holding my breath.

I feel bad that a team had to lose. I have so much respect for your team. Glad we won but we had to lay it all on the line to pull it off. Both teams are solid. BU's O line and Dline are going to wreak havoc all year. I expect greatness from BU rest of year.

All the best guys! I appreciate the great fans that Baylor has.

Two quick theories, in order of likelihood:

1. Grimes just gave up on passing because Shapen was having an off night and our young receivers couldn't get open for the life of them.

2. Shapen got hurt mid-game and the team tried to downplay it.

Defense played well enough. Secondary could very well lose us a couple of games this year.

I think we'll end ranked at 8-4, maybe 9-3. Still have pretty high hopes for this team.

Good luck the rest of the way. I'm disappointed in the outcome, but not shocked. I'm both disappointed and shocked at our play calling though lol

In my decades of being a football fan, I have never felt more pain when I said. "man, I hope missing that extra point doesn't haunt us"….until tonight.

Ultimately, we lost the game ourselves. Baylor played Baylor. Questionable ref calling in the 4th quarter and OT, but we clearly shot ourselves in the foot with sloppy penalties and a non-existent passing game. This 'confident' team looked shook. Let's acknowledge the bright lights: Kudos to the run game and Ben Sims.

Watch the replays- anytime we had the ball, Blake kept his head turned to the sideline (in the 3rd and 4th quarter) and didn't seem to make his own decisions. The coaching staff didn't seem to believe in him. Blake didn't believe in himself. We needed leaders on the field tonight and who were they? Sims? Qualon? Squirrel? Franklin? Ika? I'm not really sure who a "go-to" guy is yet and it seems the team doesn't either. BYU's freshman receiver, QB, and two linebackers stepped up. I mean this with no sarcasm, but who did for us?

Hard lessons, but a part of growing on the big stage. Not the end of the world; feel the pain & disappointment y'all. If we expect perfection, we'll be diss appointed 100% of the time. Don't avoid pain…it's inevitable in life. It makes better days even sweeter and helps us remember life isn't just about one thing. I appreciate our school and being a bear! Good rivalry developing here with BYU. Much respect to them.

Sic em forever
