When we were still wondering if we made the right hire from Angelo State/McMurray. Almost didn't happen as Rudy Feldman was our first pick, but he quit after one day

Assassin,

You have done a terrific job of putting together much of this information. Just a great job. My compliments to you my friend. My Dad went to Baylor Medical School way back in the late thirties. I grew up with Baylor football from early childhood in Mineola. Still big on Texas High School Football by the way. You seem like a decent man. Thanks for your efforts. Georgetown Bear

That particular Cotton Bowl had one of the most famous plays in the history of football.

Bama's Tommy Lewis came off the bench (in the middle of play) and tackled Rice star Dicky Moegle. Refs awarded Rice a 95 yard TD and the Owls won 28-6.

South endzone full for a day game, opponent wearing all white, most likely UT 1972 (IIRC it was dry and mild weather for early November, and that looks like a 1972 or 1973 Olds Delta 88 pulling the trailer)

My father was a freshman Owl TE that year and was sitting right behind the bench in the stands. He and his Rice teammates said that Moegle would not have scored. Some Tide player had an angle on him.

He did not have fond memories of his time at the Rice Institute. He left after 2 years and married my mother. During my recruitment he told me AFTER I signed with Baylor that he was glad I chose any school other than Rice. He did not twist my arm one way or another leaving it all up to me.

He told some funny stories of early 1950's SWC football. The Rice team must have spent a lot of time on Galveston beach. He remembers a number of Baylor players including L.G. Dupre.

SMU, Rice & TCU had 10 SWC championships between them from 1945-1960.

LG was one of my old buddies Tom Frankhauser good friends. They played on the Cowboys together. Tom died from a massive heart attack and LG got up at the funeral and had everyone that was crying, laughing too.
