but the grass is always greener, and we have all seen "bro, the backup is totally way better than this guy. Didn't you see him in that one game bro!!! Trust the process!!!!" before.

If we lose a few in these first few days that is probably not that unusual and not necessarily a mass exodus. Although....it wouldn't surprise me.

This. Baylor is probably going to lose a notable amount of players in the portal. "Baylor" in the preceding sentence could be replaced with quite a few other programs, winning or not/keeping their coach or not.

The key would be how Baylor replaces those players in the portal, and that's one of Baylor's bigger issues (that, and coaching/development). Given Baylor signed a top 25 transfer class for 2023 and given quite a few of those players ended up in the two deep, those players were needed but it would be important to determine what the specific issues where that prevented Baylor being better (other than said high level issues with coaching/development).

Yeah, the best player, 2 year starter, face of the program just walked "to have a chance at a winning program" but its just like everywhere else. You guys crack me up, but I know you played. You really know. The really know crowd has not been right on anything since 2021.

He was one of the reasons we have been losing. Sawyer Robertson has more upside. Can't deny that coaching had something to do with losing too, but Shapen's decision-making leaves a lot to be desired. I wouldn't be surprised to find out he was told they are going another direction next year.

Can't blame anyone for that. Whoever it is knows it's probably a 1 year gig and could possibly derail their career. The next OC under Aranda won't be better than Grimes. Otherwise they would not be in line to interview with him. This will end up being a buddy hire.

I'm not a shapen fan. I think he's average. But on our crappy team, he was the best player at the most important position. I'd be surprised if he ends up being a P5 starter elsewhere unless it's someplace like Vanderbilt. Apparently, he looks good in practice though.

Instant improvement! Aranda and Mack totally won't hire a guy that can't get a job anywhere else and will definitely get one that's amazing at his job and loves Aranda's passion for the direction of our program and can bring 22 5* recruits with him so we can make the playoff next year.

Shapen was never as bad as some wanted to make him and he's nowhere close to as good as some are suddenly making him out to be. But, I think most of us are just frustrated with how the season turned out, the coaching staff, the AD and the future, so I figure that is fueling a lot of the emotional responses.

Shapen gave a great effort, but the fact is that if we hire the right coordinator there will be a plethora of Blake Shapens in the transfer portal. This is the new norm. There are no 4 year commitments any longer. It's a free agent world every year as players look for the better deal in terms of money, playing time or perhaps other factors.

So, I wish Blake the best and appreciate all that he contributed to the program during his time here.

Valid point here and it leads to one common denominator…QB coach. What QB has improved under Bell?

The one's with a decent Oline and WR's that are a threat?

Shawn Bell wouldn't have a job here if he didn't beat A&M 20 years ago. He can't develop passers (Shapen, Bohanon) he can't hold onto talent we have committed (Novosad, Pyron) & he can't hang onto quarterbacks we have on the roster (Zeno, Drones) so what does he get paid for exactly?

Best of luck to Blake wherever he ends up. He had the opportunity to sit out the rest of the season when he was hurt, but came back, played hard, and did his best to help us win.

It's a shame that he was let down by a poor offensive philosophy that couldn't adapt and develop the players in the locker room.

It does sting to come to the realization that we are no longer a winning program under the current AD & HC and that the players know it.

Funny thing is Dave stuck it out with Shapen, but Shapen didn't stick it out with Dave. Who knows maybe Grimes really was the head coach and that is why he's entering the portal. The program seems very dysfunctional all the way around.

Next year will be a new level of suck not seen since the Stolen years.

This is exactly where I'm at. I think Shapen could be really good in the right situation, but this was never quite that situation for him. I hope he goes and finds one that's better for him. He's not a bad player and he competed really hard for us this fall. But he's not irreplaceable by any stretch.

Poor Cicero never had a chance. Remember when he broke his clavicle early in his first game after getting driven into the ground by the Minnesota DE. Steele should have been arrested on the spot for attempted murder for putting a quarterback behind that line.

Having an experienced QB is a big plus in college football. Now we don't have one.

Yeah Robertson may turn out to be be fantastic but he is inexperienced and unproven at this point.
