I could care less how many plays he makes when he's continually making plays for the defense by gifting extra possessions.
We're not using his strengths tonight. We're only seeing his weaknesses because we're using him as a pocket passer.

He's going to eventually be a big part of our run game. And he'll be a better, more effective player once he is.

He threw it into double coverage off his back foot and underthrew it by like 5 yards. That has nothing to do with "what we're showing" on offense. And it hasn't been his only head scratching pass this game. With Utah coming up in a week, there's reasons for concern, that's all I'm saying
The point is we're using him as a pocket passer in this game, and that's not what he is. He's a playmaker.

Once he's set free to use his legs, he'll be a better, more efficient player.


It's Tarleton State and he's thrown several near picks. I just don't follow your argument. He's used his legs to extend plays lots of times in this game when there hasn't been real pressure, but extending a play for 10 seconds and then underthrowing a 30 yard pass to double coverage is not going to move the needle for us

Dequan looked better in the first half. His footwork the last couple of drives has been miserable. Need to work on that, guys are open, he just isn't having the footwork to make the accurate throws.

Finn has consistently under thrown receivers and throws off his back foot. If he's the best we've got it's going to be tough in conference.

No one is defending the throws into coverage. The point is we're not even attempting to do what he's good at.

The one time we did tonight -- on the first drive -- we zipped right down the field and scored in like four plays.

I don't have a problem with us being vanilla against Tarleton. But this game plan isn't helping Finn, who's being asked to do things he's not particularly strong at and told not to do the things he does well.

Its gonna play out exactly like you know it will.
He's not a thrower, his running at this level is not going to be good. He makes bad decisions against Tarleton, and he does not seem like he can improvise a run. I think it's unlikely we win against B12 talent.
I don't even think it's too early to make the call, we need to see QB #2.

A team with Dequan Finn at quarterback should call 10-15 designed runs a game for him. He's had about three tonight.

He's an electric runner. We need to let him run.

I don't have a problem with keeping in the pocket tonight. There's no reason not to. But we need to unleash him going forward.

He'll be a more efficient passer once we start running more RPO stuff.

On the rare occasions we've called it, he's executed that stuff pretty well tonight. It's the pocket passing that's been an issue.

I think the biggest/most positive development tonight has been the play of the defense.

An improved defense has always been the best/most likely path to a competitive season. If this unit can continue to perform at a high level, we'll be in a lot of games this year.
