Your comment would be convincing of your post title if you can provide a link to a post you made immediately after the 2021 season when most people here were in the dumps hoping that we could hang on to him when reportedly the big programs were calling and were ecstatic when his extension was announced. Easy to say things in retrospect. Just show what you said in 2021. If you were on the bad hire wagon then after we had just won the Sugar Bowl, as proved by a post, you deserve credit for your claim.

And, I date back well into the Briles years on S365.

You can call for his job today. That's fine. But when he came to Waco Aranda by all accounts seemed like the right guy. You can scroll my comments, I'm not going to defend his performance. But he looked right when we brought him on. Sometimes people aren't a good fit. Sometimes you don't know that in advance.
I didn't like the hire at the time, but that's mainly because I have strong bias against outside coordinators as head coach hires.Killing Floor said:

Concur. I want a guy who has proven he can run a program, unless possibly you're promoting from within and trying to keep an entire staff and culture in place. Much rather hire a highly successful FCS coach (see K State) than an FBS coordinator.bear2be2 said:I didn't like the hire at the time, but that's mainly because I have strong bias against outside coordinators as head coach hires.Killing Floor said:

I don't mind internal promotions, but I pretty much never want to hire someone else's assistant. Those guys should be made to prove they can coach at the FCS or G5 level before they're handed a power conference program IMO.
100 percent. There have been so many rookie mistakes in these five years with Aranda. I think he generally does a pretty good job of learning from those, but some of them can't be undone or corrected quickly. If he fails here, and odds are fairly strong he will, you'll be able to point to three or four head-scratching decisions he made that completely sunk his tenure.Robert Wilson said:Concur. The game of musical chairs on Aranda's staff indicates he was not ready to run and manage a program.

As you can imagine most of the replies weren't kind. The funny part to me was that the thread was deleted.
It's kind of emblematic of our political and cultural climate for the past 8-10 years. Don't like someone's opinion? Shout them down or otherwise remove the "nuisance".

I think the more pertinent question is not about Aranda, but will Linda and Mack make the right call to fire him, and replace him with someone with vision and competence.
Everyone here should worry about the 6 win season. With it they can sell Aranda to donors for another season. Linda and her office seem to have an affinity for Aranda.
Contracts have buyouts for a reason. Firing him and paying the pre-negotiated and agreed-upon buyout is honoring the contract.Pastorron said:
I think this is pure nonsense. A contract is a contract. Do we honor it or not? I was thankful that the man stayed when many wanted him. Leave him alone and let him build a program. I have watched Baylor football since the 50s and have noticed the many times we keep firing people and not honoring our word. It is true that Baylor was behind in paying players but I think the blame for that lies beyond the football coach. Looking at the 25 recruits shows some great progress. We celebrate this week the big win against Texas. Before that win, I heard the same kind of naysayers before that season and game, calling for a new direction. Remember we learned alot about 20 years ago in the basketball program...when we learned if you recruit some thugs, do not be surprised when they act like thugs. Switzer learned the same lesson at Oklahoma football! Let the man work out what we promised him and get some true student players to play for ole Baylor U..

Indeed. Don't forget the overarching tone of moral high ground (those who disagree with me are morally inferior), the references to "thugs," and mentioning Switzer as a warning. This type of post is peak elderly Baylor fan. It comes across like a parody, but I know it's almost certainly meant to be taken seriously. Like, it has all the hallmarks including referencing wins from 50 years ago and trying to somehow apply them to our current coaching situation, not understanding the concept of a contract that can be bought out, scolding people for wanting to fire a failing coach, referencing recruiting as a reason to keep a failing coach, etc.
