There is no Deion model. He's like Trump -- a unique beast aided by a previously established brand and pre-existing celebrity.

Just as politicians who have tried to copy Trump's playbook have largely been failures, so too will those who think they can follow some sort of Prime blueprint.

Deion and his staff have done a better job than I thought they would of coaching the players they've brought in. But at the end of the day, Colorado is good because of two generational talents that are only at Colorado because of Deion. Most other coaches can't attract that level of talent to a program that has been the drizzling ****s for two decades.

His team is still pretty bad, but credit to him for winning most of the games on his schedule. They might have had a totally different season had they not gotten bailed out by a bogus PI call vs. North Dakota St.

They absolutely can't keep him b/c he has zero interest in Colorado. Only growing his own brand, and also getting his sons drafted into the NFL. That's what Deion is all about.

I also think it's tough to say he's got the winning formula b/c he's literally never won anything. Never won at the fake high school he co-founded (they tried firing him twice there for his antics). Didn't win the title in both full seasons at Jackson State, then bailed. He could very well win a pretty mediocre B12 this year, I suppose. Keep in mind, their best win this year is now us lol, or North Dakota State.

I guess the wins are worth it to COL in the short term, but I don't see how they sustain that when he leaves since it's his celebrity that attracts players.

Yet, they are on the cusp of the playoff...

COL has made themselves a name and are getting more attention than since the Kordel days. With NIL, will be interesting to see who they get, if Deion even leaves. His current locations has some benefits other States don't in terms of recruiting.

Deion is a Spirit Halloween store and Colorado is the old Toys-R-Us building housing it for a season. Enjoy it while it lasts. Weeds will be growing in the parking lot again soon enough.

I have a good buddy whose son goes to CU, and he's been all in on Deion from the beginning. He told me early last season if you listen to Deion not being Primetime but just being a coach, he's actually a pretty contemplative guy who admits he's still learning to be a coach. But you have to get past the soundbites that are all you see and read on ESPN

I really never had the time to watch a CU press conference, so I take his word for it.

If you told me, before the resurgence of the last 4 games, that Peyton Manning was going to come coach at Baylor for only two years, but would bring Arch and a Heisman favorite plus some other elite players to campus, and have us in playoff contention in year 2, I'd have taken it.

I don't think I'd take that deal now, since it seems like we've got a really positive trajectory, but Colorado hasn't had a good trajectory in a long time.

If you can buy a new truck, you don't lease a Corvette, but if you are driving a beat-up Corolla, the leased Corvette has lots of appeal.

Not really. The question the OP is asking is specifically about Colorado's trajectory. That program only has one if they can continue to attract the level of talent that Deion has there after he leaves.

I think a big part of Deion's success is his name. He's able to draw talent based on his name recognition. I wonder how that would translate to the NFL where players are drafted. In his defense, people have underestimated him and he has proven many critics wrong.
