HBaylor's CB TayShawn Wilson and DL Roberts Day have entered the portal.
Good luck to both, but neither were significant contributors. We're going to have some attrition -- and frankly need some to build the best roster we can. If we're going to lose guys (and everybody is), these are the types you want to lose to the portal.
How do you know what they contributed?
I'm sure if they read your jerk-wad comments, they wouldn't like it very much.
Because participation reports and stats exist ... ?

As I said, I wish both well at their next stop -- as I do most of the players who transfer away from Baylor. But to open spots for rotation-caliber transfers and incoming freshmen, we need some guys like these to transfer to places where they'll have a better opportunity to play and contribute.

I'm not going to cry crocodile tears over losing guys who couldn't crack our two-deep. I'm going to wish them well and be glad that we have those scholarships to reallocate.

Team building in the era of NIL / Portal buffoonery requires Effective roster management. Effective roster management means that you need to turn over about 10%-20% of your roster every season. For schools like Baylor it means you have to have a damn near 100% hit rate on your portal additions.

Losing guys has to happen. Just make sure the talent coming in is an upgrade over that walking out the door. That certainly appears to be the case here.

I am sure both were good contributors in practice running scout teams and things like that. Maybe even great teammates, encouraging, helping others, etc.

But what I think was meant by the contribution part was on field stats of which both are lacking in. That is not a knock against them but rather a fact that they did not see much playing time which is probably why they are wanting to leave.

That is the way it works at every school. Guys who don't play much want to go somewhere they believe they can play. Big stars at smaller schools (G5) want to go to a bigger school (P4) to get a bigger pay check and exposure for NFL scouts.
That's exactly what I meant and I think most understood that.

Sounds like some good news to me. We definitely need some big anchors on the DL.

What was he out of high school? Star/rating wise.

Looking on 247 looks like he was a 3*.

Out of HS he had offers from Aggy, Miami, UT, Oregon, TCU, BU, CU, and TT.

It's what separates georgia from everyone else. They stock up on the DL and shut down run games and passing attacks because of it.

I love that he's going to be a multi-year guy for us. I've liked most of our one-year rentals a lot, so this isn't a knock on them, but those multi-year guys are still my favorite transfers.

Baylor is still, at its heart, a developmental program. I love when we're able to get rotation guys with untapped potential and time left to achieve it.

Yeah I'm not sure why he didn't get that and seemed to get offended at your comment.

We do need a corner or two from the portal. I feel decent about LeVar Thornton. Beyond him, it's bleak

I thought Jenkins had a pretty strong finish to the regular season after an underwhelming start and middle.

Nice get. This gives us a replacement for Steve Linton.

The key to recruiting one-year transfers is the ability to replace them when they leave. If you don't have internal options ready to assume those roles, you have to go back to the portal and hit again. It looks like we've done that so far with Noel and Linton's spots -- and did so with guys with multiple years of eligibility remaining, which is always nice. We'll need to do that with a couple of the others as well.

Good pick up for them. Surprising they got that one over us considering the playing time available. Tech also recruiting well. Those are two contenders we'll be competing with next year. Still patient, should pick up soon. Need to keep up.

We have one of the most attractive WR spots available in the country (returning solid o line, very good qb, good system)

We're always really selective and deliberate because we usually have fewer spots to fill than others.

We tend to cast a more narrow net and wait on the outcomes on our top targets before moving on to others.

Not concerned just surprised it was Iowa St since Aranda did offer. I know Dave is more careful with this and did pretty well in the portal last year as almost all of them translated.

Need 2-3 D lineman, 2-3 receivers, a few CB's and 2 safeties, and a lb. Again I expect it to pick up but we do need a decent amount of difference makers at all of those positions. Fortunately most are just to replace pretty good players, the defensive backfield is the only spot that straight needs a talent upgrade. With the momentum built up I do think they will get some real solid pick ups.

How many slots do we have available to fill from the portal? About 5 or 6 now only? Not including the 2 recent signees so I guess fewer than even that? I think that is about the number that has entered the portal thus far total. I guess that is a downside of a staff that has good player retention, portal recruiting season isn't as exciting as it is for other programs.

In fairness, Iowa State did just have two 1,000-yard receivers. That's probably a pretty attractive offense if you're a wideout with No. 1 potential. You're going to get more targets there than you likely would in Spavital's offense, which spreads the ball around more.

I'm curious to see where that unlv QB that quit on the team a few games into the season will land.

Good point, didn't realize they had two 1000+ guys only knew the one. Cameron and Trigg will get a lot of touches so makes sense.

Just a couple of days ago, Phoenix Jackson supposedly had committed to Auburn after visiting there.

And he also visited Kansas State and Nebraska.

It's nice to know that others agree about him.
