These things tend to be about as useless and preseason polls and power rankings.

Just let it play.

meh. I think Caleb Williams said the same thing about Lincoln Riley only days before it was announced they were a package deal to USC (and Williams had known this at the time he gave the statement).

I wonder when we will evolve to the era where HCs are hired away mid season as well. To officially start of course immediately when the current season ends.

Campbell would be a grand slam hire. I would take him every day of the week and twice on Sunday over Rhule

Rhule is a decent program builder but he does things his way even if it means taking losses that he probably doesn't have to take, and I don't think Penn State is going to put up with that approach

Ok, this is sheer rubbish. Please tell me about the number of programs Matt Campbell has turned into winners. He stays at Iowa State for a reason. Remember the most talented team in Iowa State history back in 2021? How did that season turn out?

You don't know what you're talking about.

Check out Iowa State's program record before he got there. He's making it happen in a very difficult place to win. Kind of like what Gundy did at Oklahoma State.

But it's weird how people won't give Rhule credit for the same thing at multiple programs.

I do give him credit. I will always appreciate what Rhule did "standing in the gap" for BU during a time when I could've easily seen football becoming a total afterthought at our school.

He kept us relevant and helped to rebuild our brand which had become a steaming pile of elephant dung.

I agree with others that he has some used car salesman in him (like many successful coaches) and may have used us as a stepping stone...but it was to mutual benefit.

Also worth noting, Franklin's buyout stipulates that he must look for a new job immediately and includes offsetting language. So if Franklin goes to Florida for 5 years/$25m, Penn St. will only owe him $25m. Franklin will almost certainly get a new job, so the financial hit won't be as bad as the reported $50m he is owed.

This means that they probably don't have to be as cheap with their new hire as some people seem to think.

That job can also be in scouting and broadcasting in addition to coaching for the offset to apply.

Saban used to collect coaches that had been let go to make them staff analysts. Wonder if Bama still does that.

Won't be Cignetti. He just signed an eight year extension at Indiana.

Well that's one way to end any buzz or speculation about an opening somewhere. But he struck me as a guy who was happy with what he has going.

He's really happy now with his $93.25 million fully guaranteed. Wow. B1G must really be spreading the $$$$ around to it's members if they can afford this.
Thank you Miami Hurricanes. 10-3. :)

Happy for Cignetti. He's on the verge of going to the playoffs for the second straight year, and now that it's easier to get in, I don't see why he would feel the need to go anywhere else, especially when there would likely be much more pressure.

It is still really hard to swallow. Aplogists kept pointing to Liberty's future NFL stars that never happened.

Rebuilding year, fine. But you have to win that game. A depleted BU squad with Phil Tran as the lead RB should beat Liberty.

Was Grant Teaff burned at the cross for San Jose State?

Seems like a lot more was on the line in that game than Liberty.

My problem is that under Briles, Baylor had become a national brand built on a lethal offense that kids wanted to play for. Rhule came in and seemed intent on dismantling everything Briles had built and making it about himself …. Giving single digit numbers to certain players based on perceived merit (like how does that help morale throughout the team?) …. Having the stupid plastic basketball goal on the sideline.

Maybe the board told him to erase the memory of Briles, I don't know, but he seemed to have no respect for what had been built before him. If he had a Nick Saban pedigree, that is one thing, but he did not.

Nope. SJ State was actually pretty decent and had legit NFL talent, sandwich game in the middle of conference season, a natural trap game. It sucked, but it was one game, ended up having no effect on the season, didn't stop them from running the table in conference and a Cotton Bowl bid.

Liberty was a morale killer and a stain for the ages, an epic national embarrassment that shocked everyone. UTSA when they weren't good wasn't much better. Rhule just got way too cute in those games and blew it. You need to win those games, especially in your first season.

I still don't like the number thing. Earn it every week, and make your own number stand out. The gimmicks, the idiotic Oklahoma drill in pregame, the worn out cliches, I just don't miss that circus at all. I enjoyed the eventual winning, but it didn't seem as sustainable without big special teams plays. Offense was always a big sketchy except when a big time difference making player was carrying most of of the load.

Any way, that's in the past. I'm looking forward to a system that works on both sides of the ball and keeps progressing with the times, if we can ever get that again.

Pro - Rhuler's also talk about how we lost our recruiting class and that we had to rebuild from scratch, but that was not the case. We still had a decent roster capable of a much better season with decent coaching. But I guess that's what happens when you impose a Stone Age offense on the returning roster that we had.

The cupboard was definitely not bare by any stretch. QB was not a great situation, but they should have been able to run simple stuff and just blown those opponents off the ball instead of getting too cute. That should have been priority one.

Rhule developed far better all-round football players than Briles ever did. Rhule's players lasted in the pros, Briles' players mostly all bombed except for Andrew Billings.
