Pretty much every topic has become a dead horse at this point. So you just gotta rant.

Ain't nothin' we can do or say about any of it these days, until something relevant actually happens.

Hopefully we'll get some nice wins or some shake-up news to move the needle one way or another and we can all pull out fresh sticks to metaphorically beat things with.

Completely disagree. Any coach in America could've come in and won at least one game with the roster we had returning. In fact, it's implausible that we only won one game with that team. How does he get to tank his first year and then get credit for improving us from that lowly record?

Coaches are always evaluated against the record of the team that preceded them. I didn't particularly like the guy, but I can still acknowledge that he had us in a decent spot when he left, but he is not the Vince Lombardi that many people here try to make him out to be.

You are right, he has done it everywhere. Tanks first year, blames inherited roster and then wins.

Nebraska's Matt Rhule is the favorite to be Penn State's next coach per @Kalshi
.Rhule is favorite, at 35%, followed by Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin (14%), Bills OC Joe Brady (14%), Alabama's Kalen DeBoer (11%) & Texas A&M's Mike Elko (8%)

I'd be really surprised if Kalen BeBoer leaves Alabama or Mike Elko leaves A&M.
Kiffen might just take that Florida job unless he is confident Ole Miss can compete on NIL with Florida.
I don't know much about the Bill's OC so maybe he will be the guy. Maybe his agent is just trying to get him a raise.

I kinda think it will be CMR because no other coach they really want will say yes.

The only reason that I think Kiffin may jump to UF is that UF has won National Championships before and has the resources to do it. UF will be the flagship University in FL with the right HC. Gator alum, booster and fans are psychotic about UF. I know people that still go to every UF home game 40 years after graduation. More business deals are cut in Gainesville tailgating than anywhere else.

It is the one aspect Baylor lacks in its home games, there just isn't that influx of money that comes every week. Or not enough to move the needle against UT or A&M. UF can move the needle.

This thread continues because every time someone posts the facts of his record or length he stays somewhere people want to come back with an asterisk and add entire paragraphs to explain that but that is not how those simple numbers work.

Not really butt hurt, just don't get the "man-crush" many on here have for a guy that left after having 1 good season, a season where he lost to every ranked team. I get the Briles "man-love", he was and always will be Texas through and through. Rhule? He is a Northeastern carpetbagger that played Baylor. Yet, you guys swoon...

The best thing Rhule did, imo, was not football related. It was PR. Whether it should have been or not, Baylor was a pariah. But the media people loved Matt Rhule. Few could have done what he did.

The worst part, also not football related. He was a mercenary. He was honest about it, sure, but Baylor fans were wanting someone who cared about Baylor at that fragile moment. He was not that.

As a football coach he was fine. Underachieved his first year, overachieved his third year.

But most importantly, Baylor football was competitive when he left. We weren't convinced that would be the case when he was hired.

At the end of the day, I'm grateful he did that particular job, and I also have no loyalty to him since he left.

Bingo. Rhule was exactly what Baylor needed at that time. I honestly don't know if another coach could have, or would have wanted, to bail us out. For that, the dude has my eternal gratitude. And he was probably more transparent with his flirtations than most coaches. Its a business and he had goals he wanted to achieve.

We chose to hire Aranda. We could have very easily promoted from within and kept most of the Rhule culture and staff in place.

If he signed it, it could back fire and may not be much of a tactic. Now it makes it more expensive for PSU to hire him. They may think he isn't worth the $$$ it will take now. Again if any of this is true, most importantly the part about him having actually signed it.

This is definitely possible, given how the whole extension thing played out when he was here.

The ink wasn't even dry on the paperwork when he left Baylor.

Besides, I don't think money will be an issue with Penn State.

If Penn State wants him bad enough, they'll find a way to make it happen.

With all that said, he might want to reconsider whether Nebraska is a better fit than Penn State.

If the Huskers could run off the Golden Boy QB who led them to their last National Title, you best believe they'll have no problem coming to Rhule's house with pitchforks the moment he struggles or has a bad season.

Naw what Baylor needed was for the BOR to fire themselves, and for Briles to be talking about retirement soon and letting Kendall take over after his illustrious career.

Yeah...I don't think CMR is leaving. He got the bag.

This would make him the 3rd highest paid coach in FBS behind Kirby and Day. PSU was paying Franklin $8.5 mil per year.

It is his dream job, but this just secures him more guaranteed money with a bigger buyout. There's no guarantee that PSU has him at the top of their list, even if he's alum. They want to win a national championship, and Rhule hasn't even sniffed the CFP yet.

If Nebraska gets into the B1G CCG this year, then I think PSU ears would be very perked up. But as it stands OSU/IU are clearly the top of the conference and Nebraska is barely above the median.

It could still but might just be he surveyed the landscape and decided he was in a better situation in Lincoln. That or Penn St just wasn't that interested.

He's friends with the AD so wouldn't be shocked if the AD told him he wasn't the guy as of now but he was happy to pretend the conversation was ongoing.

If he wins 8 or 9 games this year at Nebraska his job is in no danger. He goes 8-4 at PSU next year and his seat starts warming very quickly.
BU Born&Raised
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If he feels like he's in a good situation then he's rolling the dice on continued success, possible flame out of new hire and then he transitions to PSU in 5-6years to end his career.
