From the Athletic LINK (it is behind a paywall). No idea if the salary range is accurate or if the priority of each position on the list is accurate but it does look reasonable.

I assume BU is at the low end of the range or perhaps lower given the financial difficulties Linda mentioned in her email.

Not sure how many more years the rich guys will continue to fork over bags of money to players, but time will tell. As we've seen in the news, some donors are already pulling back from NIL until the lack of a salary cap & unrestricted free agency issues are fixed. Other BMDs like Marc Cuba @ Indiana and the Texas Tech guy are spending more this year than last year.

He did not play much at A&M and he did not play much at Baylor so with limited game tape he may not get the offer he is looking for and like you said be back here. I wish him the best wherever he goes.

At Baylor, he was taken as a long term development project and Aranda specifically said last Spring that he'd need at least one full season cycle to be ready as a starter.

At TAMU, IIRC he was not recruited by Elko and was not a fit for Elko's system, thus his sparse PT and eventual transfer.

I'm guessing that once again he's found himself in a new system that's not a great fit...but if that's the case a transfer is definitely best for both parties as he'll get in where he fits in, and we'll use that money for player(s) who are a better fit for us.

BU must spend money wisely and paying players that don't play much is not a luxury BU can afford.

I agree about spending wisely.

I think signing Samu made a ton of sense in Aranda's scheme, and his upside was worth the investment - Dave's ideal defense (as seen in '21) requires a spacehog who commands double teams on every play.

Apu was a unicorn in terms of having not only the mass and strength of a true NT, but he was also quite agile for such a big man. Frankly I don't think we could afford Apu or a similar player in this current market.

Samu is not in that same mold, though--he's not nearly as agile or explosive as Apu. Klanderman wants to do very different things than what Dave was building towards, and Samu does not fit the profile for his preferred DL (explosive dudes who can cause havoc/chaos in the backfield).

This split is best for both parties.

Because this guy is an elite athlete coaches will give him opportunities all the way to the NFL. 6-1. 227 10.3 100 multiple times. He may need to be tried at a few positions including S and LB. He is built like a RB. Better athlete than player up until this point
