There is almost no point in following any of this until the first snap of the ball in the first game to see who's on the sidelines...

I guess the QB market dried up pretty quick. But to go from Auburn, to Baylor, to a FCS school? Yikes. I'm guessing his plan is to light it up in the lower division to get some field time in before parlaying that into a big money deal with a P4 in 2027?

There wasn't a market for him. No film on him.

For 1/2 the athletes, the portal is a roach motel. They go in but the don't come out.

I'm sorry but who are you talking about?

Walker White. He landed at Central Arkansas.

lol I was way off

It looks like in the NFL, the very highest paid OL each make roughly 10% of their team's roster budget, and so with a $25M cap, the $2.5M ask is pretty high but not as insanely out of bounds as it might seem to us older CFB fans.

Just wish CFB had the protections for all involved that the NFLPA+NFL have regarding player transfers and coaching changes.

There is no roster cap.

There is no roster cap.

not to NIL, but there is a revenue sharing cap.
https://www.collegesportscommission.org/revenue-sharing/

Looks like it will be a little bit above $20.5 million for the '26 Football season, and around $3-5M of that will go to other sports, so the $2.5 is actually pretty dang high. I'd say $1.8 or so is probably a more 'reasonable' starting point lol.

I think he's referring to the fact that ADs can now pay $20.5M directly to players. I think that includes all sports though. But it doesn't include NIL.

That's exactly right. The one clear winner is the shady agents. The one clear loser is the so called student athletes who will make a maybe a couple hundred k and be not one inch closer to a degree or marketable skill. There will be regulation at some point but for now the students bear the brunt of this madness.

That's the risk these guys take. I think many of them have "agents" giving them bad advice.

As an H-back type TE with good hands, I think KJ is actually a great fit for Chadwell's system. He was recruited into Grime's "RVO" Wide Zone, and in Spav's Dirt Raid he's just sort of an odd fit.

This is probably a great move for KJ.

It actually makes sense. He needs to get some game time, and he's the likely starter at any FCS program. He can parlay a would-be productive season into a bigger money P4 deal in 2027.

Not everyone make the right choice. Come the 17th, there will be 5000 kids who had a ride who are now walking.

There's a chance it was Baylor that invited him to leave. It's not like he fit Spav's offense particularly well.

He was a Grimes tight end/H-back.

Half seems high, and a couple of those were Sawyer's fault imo, but yeah I didn't use a capital G or say "great" for a reason. He's not a perfect pass catcher no doubt about it, but he's made some good catches in his time here…enough to prove to me he doesn't have "bad" hands.

This.

This is why I said no one here knows what is going on behind the scenes when everyone was lamenting the attrition part of the portal and acting like the program was ending. Btw huge attrition numbers have been happening everywhere. I know Texas folks who were acting like folks here about all the players they were losing to the portal. You have to judge all of this after portal season. Probably half the people in the portal are in there to make more money. The other half are being cut to make room for someone better in the portal. The portal is brutal. In the old days (pre 2021) how many people did one see booted from a team that wasn't for major off field issues? Not many. The lack of loyalty unfortunately is actually a two way street now despite it appearing that it is all the players that aren't loyal to the poor school and program.

Maybe, but one person's speculation isn't better than anothers. When players leave and we are not able to upgrade their position group such that it's clearly better than before they left, that's all that really matters as far as Baylor is concerned
