KINGSVILLE, Texas Eastern New Mexico University football fell to Texas A&M-Kingsville, 56-22, Saturday evening at Javelina Stadium in the Greyhounds' Lone Star Conference opener. The loss moved ENMU to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Greyhounds responded quickly after the Javelinas opened the scoring. ENMU put together a 13-play, 68-yard drive, capped by a one-yard touchdown run from Emeka Megwa. Elias Santana converted the two-point attempt to give Eastern an 8-7 advantage midway through the opening quarter.

Eastern regained the lead early in the second quarter when Clifton Cooper connected with Jose Trevino for a six-yard touchdown, putting the Hounds ahead 15-14. Texas A&M-Kingsville answered just 11 seconds later on a 65-yard Edward Chumley touchdown run and went on to take a 32-15 advantage into halftime.

ENMU continued to move the ball after the break, putting together an 81-yard drive on its opening possession of the third quarter, but came away empty after a blocked field-goal attempt. The Javelinas added three second-half touchdowns to extend their advantage. Eastern found the end zone once more in the fourth quarter when Lake Bennett connected with Trei Kibbles for a 44-yard touchdown.

Despite the result, the Greyhounds finished with 389 yards of total offense and held a 245-232 advantage on the ground. ENMU also recorded 20 first downs compared to 18 for the Javelinas.
Trevino led the Eastern receiving corps with five catches for 57 yards and a touchdown while adding 28 yards on the ground. Cooper led ENMU with 48 rushing yards, while Matthew Quartieri paced the defense with nine total tackles. Xander Holt recorded Eastern's lone sack of the night.

The Greyhounds will return home next weekend on Saturday, September 26th to face UT Permian Basin (2-1) at 2 p.m.

It's been a rough 0-3 start for the Greyhounds so far.

They try again today against UT-Permian Basin.

Kickoff shortly.

The game has just kicked off. Greyhounds receive, starting 1st and 10 at the 35 after the kickoff went out of bounds.

Greyhounds in gray jerseys and pants. Permian Basin in visiting white jerseys and red pants.

Not a good start. After a QB keeper, an INT on a tipped ball. Permian Basin has the ball.

But the fact that almost all of the offensive players we had drafted during that era -- both skill guys and linemen -- were total failures in the NFL tells you that it was a system.

I claim to be the biggest Art Briles fan anywhere but what you posted above is proof that we have never competed at the level some on here would believe.

It's so Baylor to follow successful players of Art's, and then disparage them during their pro days. Who cares about the pros? Was Art paid to win college games? Yes. Did he win college games. Hell yes. More than any Baylor Head coach ever has or ever will in an 8 year span at Baylor. It kills 2be2 but it happened regardless of his efforts to diminish it.

Because we're having a conversation explicitly about what made Art Briles successful, and that provides necessary context.

Literally no one is saying Art Briles wasn't an offensive guru or that our players during his time in Waco weren't great college players. But they put up the numbers they did because of our system. If that offends your delicate sensibilities, so be it.

One number Briles put up was AP first place votes. What a system!!!

Now we get to Listen to tech coworkers talking about How awesome they are at their system - buying Ws because no alpha male gonna give money to dei linda

Yes we laid a few. I recall having help in my 4 years as a Bear.

I only had 23 teammates that made All-SWC 1st team

I only had 34 teammates drafted into the NFL

I only had 5 teammates make All-Pro

Turds laid? Maybe. The 2015 implosion in the Cotton Bowl was no turd. It was explosive diarrhea!

The loss to a 7-4 San Jose State is about like an unranked West Virginia team blowing out a #4 ranked Baylor team in 2014 to the tune of 27-41.

Yet those teams received 1st place votes in the polls.

The cotton bowl had some bizarre stuff. Baylor didnt actually lose that game. It's been rehashed a ton of times but is what it is.

Nothing like getting doors blown off or San Jose state before everyone on this board was born but that is the lore of Baylor thru her history sadly.

1st place votes???? Who cares about getting a vote by some limp wristed sportswriter as the season plays out? Show me the poll AFTER all games have been played and the National Championship crowned. You sound like a poor Aggie!

Baylor didn't actually lose that game??????? Where are you guys from? Where did you learn to play football? Are you one of those students from Lithuania? Good grief!

This thread, like the ENM season, has taken a sharp nose dive off of a cliff. Let's bring it back to basics.

What do we think, Briles super fans? Is it the X's and the O's or is it the Jimmies and the Joes? Some combination of the two?

I literally cannot be bothered enough to watch a game, so I'm interested in hearing from those who have paid some hard $$$ to watch the Greyhounds get shelled repeatedly. What gives?

It's looking like Briles is still allergic to coaching defense, and the team hasn't caught on to his offensive system. Maybe they'll get better and lose 56-52 by the end of the season.

It'll take a season or 2 to get coaches and players in place. No NIL or transfers much. He has a 3 yr contract. If he doesn't get it turned around, it'll be the first time in about 40 years as a HC at all levels. I wouldn't bet against it.

This time he has something working against him, NIL. He just won't have the horses. Even if he finds them, he won't keep them once they show they can play. So, he will have to take chances on players. It is the same vicious cycle as BU. You can only scheme so much, as some point you need players.

Hell, there are enough rapid Briles fans on this Board, he may be able to draw enough NIL to pull it off.

Does NIL even matter at that level? They're division II after all

He's just going to have to start grabbing track guys and teach them how to play football

The transfer portal matters more, but that and NIL go hand in hand.

Because high school recruiting has been de-emphasized at the FBS level, fewer opportunities exist for kids at that level, so they end up signing at FCS, DII and even DIII schools, and each level is being used as a farm system for the level above.

It's made sustaining success at any level below the P2 difficult because every elite player you develop will have offers to move up every season.

Huh, the Eastern NM site said there was that ENM is adding NIL. If NIL enters the equation, he could bring a winner.

Where is the Sul Ross scouting report? This could be a big W for the Greyhounds.

Who is gassing up the old yella dawg for the trip out to Alpine?

7 to 8 hour trip. You can stop in Eldorado or Iraan for a great raspa break.

Which robe clutcher is up for driving the yella dawg back to Waco and changing the oil? The upcoming drive to Monmouth, Oregon is going to be tough on both yella dawg and robe clutchers.

After reading these stimulating recaps of previous games this might be the first Greyhound step into D2 Top 10. #1 offense in the nation is right around the corner.

The "Thee" is appropriate. You do have faith... : )

Didn't know you played for Briles. That is great you still follow him. My brother played for Bowden, kept in touch till he died (as well as position, etc). Coach's and players have special relationships. Nice job.
