Andy Hawkins (Midway):

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Hawkins

Quote:

He is known for being the first (and thus far, the only) San Diego Padres pitcher to win a World Series game.

Hawkins is the first pitcher to win his first 10 starts since the advent of divisional play in Major League Baseball which started in 1969.

On July 1, 1990, Hawkins pitched a game for the Yankees against the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park in which he allowed no hits, but lost the game having dominated the White Sox into the eighth inning, but after retiring the first two batters, Sammy Sosa reached on a fielding error by Yankees third baseman Mike Blowers. After Hawkins loaded the bases by walking the next two batters, Robin Ventura lofted a fly ball to left field. Rookie Jim Leyritz, fighting a blustery wind, had the ball glance off his glove for an error, allowing all three baserunners to score. The next batter, Ivan Caldern, hit a high fly ball to right field, which Jesse Barfield lost in the sun, dropping it for another error, allowing Ventura to score. The Yankees could not score in the ninth, giving Hawkins the loss despite not allowing a hit.

In his next appearance, he faced the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium in the opening game of a doubleheader. Hawkins pitched a shutout into the twelfth inning but wound up losing 20 the last time a starting pitcher has pitched in an MLB game into the twelfth inning or later.

That list isnt even close to correct.

Houston Oilers took Don Hardeman 1st round 1975
St Louis Cardinals took Johnny Barefield in the 2nd round
Cards took Doug Greene in the 2nd round
Browns took Larry Collins in the 3rd round
Lions took David Hill in the 2nd round

Those are just a few. I played from 74-76 with all of them. Tons more

Then of course you have 3 NFL Hall of Famers who arent on that list: Gene Upshaw, John Randle and Darrell Green. All in the NFL and not on that list

Like I said above, when Louis Fite signed with A&I, we were a football factory. In the later 90s NCAA changed the way they did business more guys like Louis signed with D1 teams

You played for Gil Stanke? Super, super coach!!!
Yes I did. Steinke actually. We simply called him 'the old man'. Coached from the stands. Had some GAs run the plays down to the sidelines. Ron Harms was my Offensive Coach for one year too (Baylor assistant the next year I think)

Derrick's oldest brother, Dwaine, played football, basketball and ran track at Jefferson-Moore (along with cousins Demetrius and Leroy). Dwaine was All-District in each sport and was easily our best all-round athlete and a super person (National Honor Society and Student Council). Dwaine had a stellar career at Tarleton State. As a freshman he was All Conference in football (1,000+ yards rushing), All Conference in basketball (lead the conference in scoring and rebounding) and All Conference in Track (won the 100 and was high point man at the conference championships).

Leroy play basketball for Guy V Lewis at UofH and Demetrius joined the Marine Corps.

I think they did miss out on playing together. Dwaine, Demetrius and Leroy all graduated from JMHS in '77. Interesting thing about Dwaine is he didn't play RB in HS...he was a LB.

We had Ronnie Leonard who gained 1,400 yards and a Jr that gained 800+ yards (kids name was Larry Watson...everyone called him Egg...think he played at NTSU).

Leonard played at Navarro for one season (gained 1,000+ yards) and then left school to join the Marine Corps.

There are few players in the history of professional baseball who have made as strong an impact in their debut season as did Pat Zachry. Through the 2012 campaign, Zachry remains one of only three pitchers to secure Rookie of the Year honors while helping lead his team to a World Championship. Establishing other remarkable precedents during that same 1976 season, Zachry soon became the last-minute component in a trade involving one of the greatest pitchers of all time...Tom Seaver from the Mets.

William's son Wallace, who carved a successful career in sales, settled in Waco, Texas, where his youngest son attended Richfield High School the same prep school that also would produce future major league players Tim Spehr and Todd Haney.

Zachry was fortunate to even be around to attend high school. Early teenage antics resulted in Pat taking a bullet in the abdomen at 14, and he thereafter sought safer pursuits in sports. A natural draw a number of relatives from both parents' extended families received athletic scholarships through the years Pat drew serious attention from professional scouts after twirling three no-hitters in summer league competition.

I grew up near Pat. We used to hang out at the Jaycee-Kiwanis field on Tennyson and 65th.

Once he turned pro, he and Stan Hough would start getting ready for spring training by throwing in Wallace and Cora's front yard. We were just big-eyed kids watching it all.
