Boomer Sooner JDC not a fan of the jury either
So what culture does Jenny and Brenda foster, a culture where any black male athlete falsely accused by any white girl is automatically guilty, even if the overwhelming preponderance of evidence says he is innocent.
These women have rolled the clock back to 1920 culture. No, not women's suffrage, but the same attitude that allowed lynching of black men, in public squares and nobody was ever convicted of those wrongs. That exact same sorry ass attitude. Jenny and Brenda lead the charge. Dolores is on the bandwagon.
Yep. "If a woman makes the allegation, it's true." There are MANY people, including the ones you mention, who foster that culture. It ignores centuries of law regarding many aspects of innocent until proven guilty. Many around Baylor and this board buy into that culture. Many prosecutors are in the same basic boat, and the world is full of prosecutors who have far more ambition than they do talent.
Most people reading this thread are middle class or better, educated white guys. You can probably fade a false allegation, but maybe not. Same for your son. Even if you ultimately fade it, it will do a lot of damage.
Now, imagine you are an unusually large, intimidating African American, with no money, no connections, no family name or stroke, and you were raised in a homeless shelter. You're asked to learn how to speak, dress, and function in an environment full of Betty and Bobby Baylors. Just imagine a few of those things are true - not all of them. Then, you get accused and have to convince a jury that the guy who didn't fit in in the first place, and who most people were slightly scared of, and who is now wearing an orange jumpsuit, didn't do something wrong.
Many of these people would string you up in a heartbeat.
I'm glad Oakman got a good lawyer and a clear-eyed jury. He's also fortunate that the state's case was so incredibly weak that it didn't make it a close call. But somehow that incredibly weak case hung around for 3 years. That's on the McLennan County DA.
