Carolina does not seem to fit his self described "perfect" scenario it would take to get him to leave Baylor.
They have had a losing records the last two years and do not have a solid quarterback situation. Cam has been hampered by injuries the last few years.

I'm saying it contributed. And, no, the fanbase has not been behind him throughout. Were you not around during year 1? Even year 2 wasn't good enough for fans and support was mediocre early this year. Baylor wasn't offering Rhule anything additional, he signed a new deal two months ago reportedly. If posters here are correct about things, Baylor is about to get a large deposit perhaps as early as later today or tomorrow

It's a shame his departure constantly hung over the program but I'm happy we had him for the time we did. It appears Rhodes did everything he could to try to keep him. Where do we go from here? Rhodes is going to be earning his money with this next hire.
Rhule was never gonna stay here nor anywhere else more than 3-5 years. That's just who he is, and there's nothing wrong with it. It's just how some people are wired. There is nothing Baylor fans or donors could have done to change it, so no reason to blame them.

I doubt that had anything to do with his decision making. All coaches have to deal with a segment of negativity in their fan bases....hell even volunteer Little League coaches do.
That part won't be any easier at the NFL level. I don't think that was part of his decision making.

He did a song and dance with Baylor for 3 years. Clearly, the NFL was always his target. Spent 3 years at Temple. 3 years at Baylor. Viewed us as a stepping stone and nothing else. He doesn't have my respect or animosity. Fine with him leaving if he doesn't want to be here. Especially with what we were paying him.

The Baylor fan base is very kind compared to any NFL fan base. The Panthers fired a guy who took the SuperBowling just 3 or so years ago.
Matt Rhule did what he was hired here to do -- cleaned up the culture, changed the national narrative on our program and got us back on firm footing competitively.
It sucks that he was only here three years, but he was the perfect man for the job for those three years.
Now it's time to find the next right guy.

I agree with above poster, let's throw the bank at Urban M. We need to be big enough to look past his baggage, it can be a mutually beneficial arrangement. Only problem, would he leave for a bigger job once he was here and succeeding

Charlotte will give the Rhule family a quality of life they simply would not have in New York. Its a beautiful and approachable "smaller" city slightly larger than Austin, near the mountains and not quite yet infected with the terrible leftists that infest Austin.

Spot on. Is there anyone who believes that after Mack and his search and interview team made their offer to Rhule, and he gave them his yes, they high-fived each other and said, "Yes!! We've got our new coach for the next 1 to 3 years!"
Some have said anyone would be looking for opportunities to better their life and job, and take care of their family, but this is not the equivalent of a low or mid-level employee or manager looking to increase their annual income by $10K -$20K, so they can really get a good scald on the kid's college fund. Will an extra one or two million dollars really make the difference in "taking care of the family" over the millions you're currently making? Seems like it's more about ambition, dreams, and desire than dollars.
However, I don't think there's any corporation in the real business world, who hires a new CEO, the face of their brand, and then pays him one of the top 5 - 10 salaries in the nation in that sector to recruit the very best talent available nationwide, and lead the company to the absolute highest in return on investment, stated as a goal to annually be in the top five in the country, and then allows him to openly and publicly flirt with competitors for a better opportunity. All the while professing the sense of a calling to his current position, love for his current employer, and commitment to the process of his vision to annually provide that top five finish nationally, yet simultaneously from year one showing an almost obsessive level of interest in the possibility of leaving for a different position in the most public of ways, garnering repeated national headlines which do absolutely nothing to advance his current company, or encourage potential talent to feel the confidence and commitment in his leadership to cause them to completely buy in.
Year one, possibly a fluke, and maybe not his fault. Year two, the national press reports that he would have been gone had the suitor agreed to his demand to pick his own senior staff. Clearly more than a one-off. Year three, now identified in the national press on a daily basis as a leading candidate for multiple competitors, and it's now a seemingly consuming goal., which literally robbed his employer, and the team that achieved remarkable results, of the full focus on the rewards of those achievements, which only twelve teams can enjoy each year.
And, his answer to the internal concerns over the net effects of his actions from year to year is that he's teaching his team to be men through his honesty. What corporation would accept that as a viable response or justification, especially when, as part of that adult honesty, he's advising individuals within the team to do the same on their level? Was he hired to facilitate maturation through honesty about an absence of long-term commitment and loyalty to the brand, by being open and honest about it?
At some point, it's no longer an issue of how Rhule's treating Baylor, but instead becomes an issue of how Baylor allows itself to be treated by Rhule. I honestly can't think of any reversal or assurances of his return and commitment that would have been believable to the majority of us, and I was really in his corner. It comes down to what we learned as little kids - actions speak louder than words.

Actually we aren't it was the fallout from that that put us in bad shape. The fallout from this has not started. Hopefully there will not be fallout.
