Wonder if possibility of pending NCAA sanctions was in back of mind at all?
I'm saying it contributed. And, no, the fanbase has not been behind him throughout. Were you not around during year 1? Even year 2 wasn't good enough for fans and support was mediocre early this year. Can't blame him. A large portion of our fanbase gave him constant **** regardless of how much the team improved. Hilarious that people legitimately believed that NFL teams couldn't compete with Baylor financially. Shows the depth of delusion from our brightest #TruthDontLie scholars.
Also makes sense since Rhule know McGuire is getting a HCing job out of it, so he's setting up others for success. Hopefully we can get a solid OC. That will be the key hire.

If USC announced Meyer would not be a candidate for them if they fired Helton, I can't see us looking at him. As much as it would be great, we can't have him as a candidate.
I guess that financial package Baylor was offering to Rhule wasn't the end all be all, or the panthers are shelling out a juicier package.

Just look at the posts above you. Or the posts after the first OU loss and the Georgia loss. It's comical. People are quick to call for a coach to get fired, but if one leaves for a BETTER job in the NFL, he's a traitor. Huh?
I never called for Rhule to be fired. Not in Year 1. Not in Year 2. I certainly criticized our offense regressing in Year 3 but that is just honest evaluation.365 said:I'm saying it contributed. Yep. Even in the last month or two, Rhule went on with smoaky to express his frustrations with portions of the Baylor fanbase.365 said:I'm saying it contributed. Rhodes better earn his money with this next hire. He just got a big raise too.
Or any big state school fan base. Imagine going 1-11 (regardless of circumstances) in your first year at UT (or any other Enormous State U).Quote:
The Baylor fan base is very kind compared to any NFL fan base.

This is the truth, Tulip. Couldn't have said it better myself.Mr Tulip said:
Matt obviously had NFL ambitions. Money wasn't the issue ever.
The Carolina Panthers had their man and got to interview first. I suspect you don't make the kind of scratch that enables you to own an NFL franchise without being able to make a deal. The owner had his guy and knew that he'd lose him if he got on the plane to interview with the Giants. He opened up the book and asked Matt what it would take to make a deal today.
I won't sugarcoat it. Matt Rhule was a freaking gift to Baylor when the future looked bleak. I mean, sell the stadium and fold up the mats bleak. His leaving hurts. He'll be hard to replace.
This, though, is the football business. It isn't football friends. Baylor had football, and a proud tradition, before Rhule's arrival. We'll have one after he leaves. Shake hands, be a man, wish him well, and go find another coach.
Agreed, except now there is no firm footing. There will be a fallout and it will take another 3 years to be competitive again.bear2be2 said:
Matt Rhule did what he was hired here to do -- cleaned up the culture, changed the national narrative on our program and got us back on firm footing competitively.
It sucks that he was only here three years, but he was the perfect man for the job for those three years.
Now it's time to find the next right guy.

Rhule was never gonna stay here nor anywhere else more than 3-5 years. That's just who he is, and there's nothing wrong with it. It's just how some people are wired. There is nothing Baylor fans or donors could have done to change it, so no reason to blame them.

Do you think in his interview he told Rhoades, "I'm a 3 year guy"?
