What a phony. Good riddance. I loved the wins, but he's untrustworthy and has done serious damage to our program leaving like this.

I don't understand this sentiment.

Rhule was a hired gun from the get go, one who is very good a bible speak and such.

This job was a stepping stone from the moment he got here, and he telegraphed it from the beginning.

Those that romanticised anything else were simply fooling themselves.

Maybe, just maybe, Baylor can now get a coach thinks Baylor is the destination.

Not saying Rhule wasn't a real good coach he is, but he has always been, from the outset, "that guy" who is engaged to a great girl, but still sleeping around with others on the side, until he finds a better girl.

Rhule is not a phony at all, he is what he is.

I agree, but a lot of people on here convinced themselves his on-camera stuff was the real him and his actions were irrelevant. "He said he loves it here! He'll stay forever!" despite him trying to leave every year. If you watched his actions this was expected.

Rhule/Rhoades are geniuses and always had Baylor's best interest in mind.

We all should appreciate them for working out and executing the recent extension/contract....planning together on this inevitable event. Both knowing it would happen, they set it up so that the NFL buyout now reimburses Baylor for most (if not all) of the 3 years of Rhule's comp while at Baylor.

Brilliant, and THANK YOU Coach Matt Rhule!

There were media reports that he was making $8 million a year here.

7 years for $60 million would be $8.5 million a year. I don't think this was about money.

not bad but how long will he able to keep a job with that salary is what everyone is questioning. Good deal if he finds success.

Yep I agree.

I still don't really understand why our fan base and Regents fall for the "bible speak" and "God has brought me to this school" stuff.

All these coaches are hired guns....they come for a while and then they go.

Simple as that.
Exactly. Except for Grant.

Rhule never came close to saying he'd be here forever. In fact, he made the opposite quite clear.

We don't know how much of it was guaranteed, but it wouldn't be surprising if it was a massive chunk of it.

Also, people still don't know what his specific salary was at Baylor, so it would be difficult to try to gauge how good it was.

I guess that financial package Baylor was offering to Rhule wasn't the end all be all, or the panthers are shelling out a juicier package.

It's going to cost them far more in the end than it did us. Now Baylor can use the new fundage to hopefully get a coach who's into finishing what was started.

Trust the process...he needs a belt in the mouth.

Narn, of us.

But he just signed a 10 year 6+ million a year contract here, with MUCH less pressure.

So it isn't the same thing.

He was going to have more money than he could ever spend no matter whether he stayed or left.

I think the bottom line was his dream was to be a head coach in the NFL. Now it's a reality.

"In September, Baylor announced a contract extension for Rhule, which Jay Glazer of FOX Sports estimates is around $8 million per season. That is, of course, a substantial amount of money the Giants would have to top right out of the gate, but it's hardly the costliest part of hiring Rhule.

In addition to having to offer Rhule at least $9 million per season to leave Baylor, the Giants would have to buy out his current college contract."

A few thoughts... First, he loves rebuilding, and this is a good team to try and rebuild. He already said no to the jets because they wouldn't let him hire his own coordinators and assistants, so probably he is getting a lot of autonomy from the panthers.

Second, he sweet talked many posters all the way, who are now silent. It will happen again with the next guy.

Third, the money is somewhat shocking. I think anyone would have gone for that.

Fourth, this isn't about sour fans, at all. Rhule is smart enough to know that an NFL fan base will be 10x as toxic if he puts them through an equivalent 1-11 season.

Hopefully he finds peace at the top of his profession. NFL Head Coach, there are only 32 of them in the world at any given time.

I wish him the best (since he is not going to the Giants)

Thank you sir for your time here, you have cleaned our house and left us with a great platform to build on

I think people don't understand that given the opportunity to do something you've dreamed of doing is going to trump a certain percentage of money. Much easier to accept if you are already making millions as well.

If true, the defense will take a two or more year hit no matter who we hire to replace Snow. Nothing to do with the scheme, just the players having to learn a new system. Plus, recruiting is probably dead for a year or two. That 8 win season many talked about here next year.....we'll do good to get 6.

Just bring in someone who WANTS to be here and WANTS to be a college HC.

Exactly - no problem with the decision - man should pursue his dreams and what's best for his family financially, big problem with the deception leading up to and then making that decision, while professing to be this massive Man of God. What do you think all these recruits who signed early think of God now, if HE has guys with this kind of ability to be deceptive, being their purported agents?

I said this in another thread....I'm thankful he came here in our time of need, We were a dumpster fire and in a few years he had us in the top 10. Well done Matt Rhule. It's a shame his departure constantly hung over the program but I'm happy we had him for the time we did. It appears Rhodes did everything he could to try to keep him. Where do we go from here? Rhodes is going to be earning his money with this next hire.
