Another restaurant that used to have great burgers was Griff's in China Spring. It's been several years since I've been, however,so I don't know if they still hold up.

Went to griffs this morning.

Clay Johnston was enjoying a nice breakfast to himself.

Still as nice as he was when I first met him when he was in HS. Great guy to catch up with

I've had enough Griff's catfish to kill, well, a catfish I suppose. That place will grease your indoor plumbin' real quick.

Don't knock it 'till you've tried it. If you can't get gourmet fried catfish at a glorified gas station in China Spring, where can you get it? You'll be nice n' regular until the rapture.

My wife and I went out to Griff's a while back to try the burger. My wife said the burger was good but not good enough to put up with the attitude of the cashier and filthy bathroom.

That's my favorite part of griffs, old cranky lady cashier is hilarious. My wife still quotes her sayings from time

Nah. Last I checked, Waco doesn't have a 'Heart Attack Grill' like they do in Vegas. I've been there once, and it's over the top.
Quote:

The Heart Attack Grill is a hospital themed restaurant in downtown Las Vegas. It has become internationally famous for embracing and promoting an unhealthy diet of incredibly large hamburgers.

Customers are referred to as "patients," orders as "prescriptions," and the waitresses as "nurses." All those who weigh over 350 pounds are invited to unlimited free food provided they weigh themselves on an electronic cattle scale affront a cheering restaurant crowd.

The menu includes the Single Bypass Burger, Double Bypass Burger, Triple Bypass Burger, Quadruple Bypass Burger, Quintuple Bypass Burger, Sextuple Bypass Burger, Septuple Bypass Burger, and the Octuple Bypass Burger. These dishes range in weight from half a pound to four pounds of beef.

Also on the menu are Flatliner Fries (cooked in pure lard) and the Coronary Dog, Lucky Strike no filter cigarettes, alcohol, Butterfat Milkshakes, full sugar Coca-Cola, and candy cigarettes for the kids!
Is it any good you ask? I dunno. I bought a souvenir menu for $1.00 and left because I was by myself and scheduled to eat at some stuffed-shirt place later that afternoon with my wife and friends.

John Lilly's is a steak house but they have really good catfish.

Green beans aren't really something I expect to brag about but theirs are really good.

Welp, someone else is going to have to take up the mantle here. Baylorhistory just shot me the finger on another thread when I asked about our burger stories.

He busy.

Anyone else?

I may give it an effort. I will most likely not limit myself to just a "cheeseburger." For instance, at George's when I order a burger, I get the Smokehouse Burger, sans the jalapeno bun. A Whataburger, I'll usually order the Sweet & Spicy burger.

In all fairness, I intermediate fast, so I only eat dinner. I may break that one day a week or two to get a burger. I work on the north end of town so my first one might be Christie's (even tho I was not impressed when I tried them about 9-10 years ago.)

I may pen my first review tomorrow or at least by Saturday.

I went to Fuddruckers Friday and had a Texas burger. It was just a hamburger with a huge amount of jalapeƱos on it. Overall it was rather disappointing.

On Saturday a group of us went to Griff's after playing golf. Their barbecue burger was very good. While it it is a long way from my home near McGregor it is well worth the drive out there to eat a burger.

Had a great burger at Billy Bobs in Hewitt. I think they will do well there. Not cheap but good quality and good portion size.

Tom's Burger Review

Last Friday, my youngest son and I tried Toms' Burger for the first time in many years.

Even though it was nearly 2:00 pm, the main dinning room was full. They had shut down (blocked off the side room).

This classic hole-in-the-wall had an unchanged mid-80's feel to the place.

Even though the place was full we were able to order quickly. The cashier was knowledgeable, patient, and friendly.

We both ordered single-patty cheeseburgers.

They were cooked to order and we experienced no issues with order.

The patties were standard 1/4 burgers. I don't believe it was fresh ground beef. Simple burger with little seasoning. The commercial buns were lightly buttered and toasted. I chose lettuce and onions (that were diced) as my toppings. They were fresh.

The fries were piping hot and fresh. Nondiscript, generic, and commercial. There were not bad, they were just a filler. I should have sprung for the Cajun seasoning.

I forgot to take a pic of the menu; however, the Cheeseburger combo (burger, tots, cookie, & drink) was a reasonable $8.70.

Overall, good burger and a satisfying lunch.

Tom's is Boss, but it is never opened.

I haven't eaten there in years because I live out of town, and they are usually open while I am elsewhere.

Now I can't because I am diabetic combined with a bunch of other health problems that make this kind of thing virtual suicide...

But a Green Chile Cheeseburger from Tom's wouldn't be a bad way to go out!

If you can find them, and they are open, then maybe you should go to Tom's Burgers.

Really old would have been saying across from the old Spenco or ice rink.

I stopped in here last week. It was good but It was as you described. It doesnt rank up there with Dubl R or Cupps in my opinion

I have had this burger several times and it never disappoints. They use ground up brisket in the patty. It is HUGE.

Pro tip: They sell the extra patties out of their cold case, so you can buy them and grill them yourself at home if you want.

Revival does a great gourmet type burger. Had a bunch of workers at my house and we chowed down!!! They requested them the second day. That's a pretty darn good sign.

I saw a deal on a Pitboss Facebook page where people were making there own burger grind with 2lbs brisket (dickle fat trimmed away), 2lbs chuck roast and 2lbs sirloin. Several posters bragged about how good that combo is. I was wondering how it might do if venison was substituted for the sirloin.

Christi's in Bellmead

On Friday, I met my dad, step mom, and two sons at Christie's for a late lunch.

If Tom's Burgers was a flashback to the 80's, Christi's took me back to the 70's. This was a true holei-in-the-wall joint. 4 to 6 small tables in the "main dinning room" and maybe another six in the adjacent room that doubled as a storeroom with paper goods along the back wall.

Even with my late arrival, the tiny place was still packed. When we finished ordering, a small queue formed to the door which near the counter.

The cashier was friendly and helpful. I ordered the double-double with fries.

The truly fresh ground beef "meat balls" were lightly seasoned and pressed into patties on the cooktop. The burgers were thin and cooked throughly without being overly cooked or too dry.

The fresh buns were unbuttered and lightly toasted.

The fries were the same commercial fries that were fresh and nearly identical to Tom's, if not the same. The flavor reminded me (in a good way) of fries at a Little League concession stand.

I went into Christi's with low expectations. My last visit was about 9 years ago. I may have caught them in a bad day. The burger then was dry and forgettable. This trip was much better.

Overall, it was a very solid burger that was prepared quickly and correctly. I would equate it with Tom's.

While I enjoyed the burger, I wouldn't drive across town just for that burger. Because I do however work in the Bellmead area for a large company I will visit them again at some point.

Don't miss it too much. We're getting close to $20 around here, too.

In fact, one of the best burgers I've had recently was down in Austin at a place called Bartlett's (formerly a Houston's, for those familiar with such things).

Cheeseburger with one side was $22.00. I'm glad my old depression-era grandfather isn't still around to hear that I spent that kind of money on a burger, but I digress.
