Isn't Grimes a true PG why was he redshirted when it was glaringly obvious we need a true PG?

The mods and know it alls on here want you to think we have the best guards. Houston's guards would eat ours for lunch. Just an average group of guards nothing special
Our guards are objectively very good. This is just a really bad game.

Our defense is a very real problem, though. If we don't get that fixed, it's going to be a long year.

On the one hand George at least is young so he can maybe develop a defense, but on the other he's playing like a poor man's Matthew Mayer on offense. I guess maybe we can get two years of him if he keeps playing like this.

The real lack of anyone who can play the 3 and 4 is such a huge problem for this team. Sorry Lohner is just serviceable at best.
Bridges is a much bigger problem than Lohner right now.

Those can be broken but let's be honest he was very raw he needs development time

He was a lightly recruited JUCO guy. He's probably not very good yet.

Yes sorry I meant to imply he's the only guy out of Bridges, George, and him that can somewhat perform appropriately at the role.

Our guards are not objectively very good. Turnovers matter and they go multiple minutes without even getting a good shot. Winning bball is more than shooting %. They can be good at times but they can also suck at times. Defense also matters and no one on this team could have started 2 yrs ago. That team was amazing, but that is the standard for "good".

This is recency bias speaking. Our guards have been good all year and will be good the rest of the season.

We won't play another offensive half like the first half of tonight's game again this season. The guards aren't the problem. Our brutal team defense is.

And our national championship team had one of the best backcourts in the history of college basketball. That's an impossible standard.

Really hope Drew gets back to finding and playing skilled big men. No reason we can mix good guards and good bigs.

The problem is that Flo, Bridges and Lohner pose no offensive threat. Shaka's press worked to perfection because he knew Flo and Bridges/Lohner weren't a threat so the guards would try to overhandle the ball working it upcourt instead of trying to throw to the far sides. Flo is no threat to dribble drive after receiving a lengthy pass and unfortunately Bridges and Lohner are fumble fingers.

We scored 25 points…. Guards ARE the problem, well one of many problems

Just a thought, maybe guard against the 3-point shots? It could make a difference.

Flo has really created a black hole at this position since we lost Freddy.

We're getting there on offense, but this defense went from allowing drives every second to letting them heat up on the perimeter.

Offensively their good when their hitting 3's. All around play. No not in my eyes at least. Gotta be able to play some D and none of them can. There was a thread about this group of guards being better than the Natty teams guards and that's the funniest **** I've ever read. Those guards would embarrass this group

They would torch this team brutally. That team would absolutely destroy this weak Marquette pressure. Imagine what ease they would have getting to the lane on every possession against Bu's layback style. Ridiculous defense

But but we don't need scoring from the 4-5 positions… I was told. True is you do and this is exactly why. Flo and Bridges are worthless because they give us NOTHING offensively and are even worse defensively

Marquette putting on a passing clinic. But, it doesn't help that BU is overcommitting and leaving them wide open.

In one game ... that you are predictably overreacting to.

Our defense is a legitimate problem. Our guards are a massive strength.
IowaBear

If this is overreactiving take your green blinders off. Our guards can't defend. If you don't see that I suggest you make an appointment for a vision checkup.

I'm not sure how you fix the D. It's evident we are not equipped to be a good man-to-man D, and unfortunately we'd likely get shot out of the gym in more than a few games trying to play zone in the Big 12 this year. I'm sure Drew and staff will continue to work on some type of hybrid D to try and fit the skills.
IowaBear

Play zone. Cryer, Flagler and George can't stay in front of anyone. Make teams like us up from deep. Likely to happen but it's better than the layup drill Marquettes running

Only thing I can think of is he thought Sochan would have been a 2 year guy. Him and Jon healthy and we have a good team. Huge gaps in the roster.

We have a team defense problem. No one is doing their job currently.

But you were complaining about our guards' offense, which is silly.

Yes the 16 unforced first half turnovers mostly by our GUARDS is a silly thing for you to disregard. But I expect nothing less from you. After all you know everything.

Yes this is a bad game. The season isn't over. Yall need to calm down. We will regroup by the end of the season. We will be ready for march. Maybe even win the big 12 tournament.

He does a pretty decent job of finding skilled big men. Sochan was a lottery pick a year ago.

In this one game. They've played really poorly tonight. There's no reason to make a trend out of a one-time event. When turnovers become a trend, we can talk about it.

Poor defense is a trend. Our guards are still good.

No opposing coach or analyst would agree that our guards are a problem on the offensive end. It's a silly, kneejerk reaction to a frustrating night.

Thamba is frankly just a bad basketball player. He has improved almost none over the years. Terrible feat, horrible defender, can't really rebound, all he does is get is five fouls and exit the game. Really a waste of a roster spot.

How are our guards defensively?? You keep conveniently avoiding that question. Are good guards not good on both ends of the court?
