Scored 20 points in the first 8 minutes and managed to lose ground

Really hope Drew gets back to finding and playing skilled big men. No reason we can mix good guards and good bigs.

Only thing I can think of is he thought Sochan would have been a 2 year guy. Him and Jon healthy and we have a good team. Huge gaps in the roster.
Not only Sochan and EJ, but also KB and Mayer who are bigger wings who helped on the boards and defensively. Tough to expect to replace those 4 with Bridges, Lohner and Josh O. Really hurts our roster continuity that Loveday has been a bust.

The mods and know it alls on here want you to think we have the best guards. Houston's guards would eat ours for lunch. Just an average group of guards nothing special

Sounds like our OL and DL hype.

They can't trick me twice

I remember convincing myself when UVA shot 56% from the floor and 64% from 3, it was just a fluke. We'd never give up shooting percentages like that the rest of the year.

Marquette currently shooting 62% from the floor and 51% from 3.

How are our guards defensively?? You keep conveniently avoiding that question. Are good guards not good on both ends of the court?
Bonner is pretty good. Flagler is decent. And Cryer and George are poor. But our help defense is every bit as big a problem as our on-ball defense currently.

The good news is, since nobody knows what they are talking about, our baseball team should win the Big12

He does a pretty decent job of finding skilled big men. Sochan was a lottery pick a year ago.

Missing him badly. Would be the best defender rebounder combo in the college game. Both huge needs right now

Oh I'm not disagreeing with your assertion that the entire defense is bad. That we 100% agree on

Sochan wasn't exactly a big man. Large forward maybe but we need a skilled 7 footer or two.

We have young gaurds playing like young guards in November. They are NOT bad guards. This is a bad game. They will develope. We will compete in the big 12 this year. We will compete in March this year. It's November and we are a young team with a lot of new players.

Help defense is off the charts bad and has been since the first game against MVSU, probably the worst of a Drew team in many moons unfortunately.

The only young guard we have is George and love but he still needs time

We're going to score 75 points with 20-plus turnovers tonight (a number we're unlikely to match the rest of the year). The offense/scoring isn't the problem.

Sochan is a starting PF in the NBA. I will take that in a heartbeat.

We don't have a point guard this year. Huge problem.

Didn't realize a senior and 2 juniors were young guards. But nonetheless. I'm sure will improve no one denying that. But it's absolutely ok to call tonight what it is. Bad basketball. I'd the defense doesn't improve we aren't sniffing the top 5 of the league. That's just the reality. We're really bad defensively

Transition defense maybe even worse

I partially agree. Great should always be the standard and we meed to assess against that realizing it doesnt happen often. As for the first half, this is the 2nd time in 3 meaningful games this board says "won't happen again"…until it does. If im gonna believe it , they need to " put it on film" not a message board

Love is a freshman coming of an ACL injury.
Bridges is a transfer so new to the team, chemistry still building

Not really accurate. Bonner is decent but gets beat with a step consistently. Always overplaying. Only looks good in comparison to the putrid defense of the others. Flagler has regressed and gets beat constantly. Cryer is bad and George is bad as well.

What does chemistry have to do with individual defense? As individual defenders we are really poor like worst in a decade plus poor.

This. I've been pausing and watching our help defense and our rotations. Sometimes we over help, sometimes we don't help at all.

Early in the game I had no idea if Flo knew the game started. Josh O now taking up that attitude

Our problem against both Virginia and Marquette was a turnstile defense that allowed both opponents to run away and hide. No one has denied that that's a problem.

Offense/scoring won't be a consistent issue for this team. Holding opponents to fewer points than we score will.

It is. The rotations are terrible and the energy and hustle is terrible on D. Pathetic on that side of the floor so far. Shocked as thought Drew would have the team committed to going all out on D. Central tenet of the program.

Neither Bonner nor Flagler, who were plus defenders on last year's team, have regressed. They just don't have the same help behind them. Aggressive defenders will always get beat at times in a no middle defense. The key is quality help and sound rotations behind them. We're not getting either this year.

In the world of crazy stats, can't say I've seen too many teams out rebound the other by 8 boards and trail by 28.

Hmmmmm......18 turnovers to the opponent's 6 thus far. Why does that have to be fixed all over again every single season, or even several times in a season?

As fans, we need to practice yelling "CATCH THE BALL" and "GET ON THE FLOOR"
It will come in handy this year.

Hey, on the positive side, we only have 2 in the 2nd half.
