I feel this win had more to do with Cincy's tired legs. If fresh, they'd have won. We just weren't very good.
We were very good in the second half. Scored 44 points on 50 percent shooting while limiting them to 30 points on 38.5 percent.
Again, probably more to do with their tired legs.
I doubt it. We've been a better second-half team all year long. It wasn't like this was an isolated incident.
If this wasn't their second game in two days I would be in agreement with you.
So they went from not tired in the first half to tired in the first 8 1/2 minutes out of halftime, when we outscored them 23-7 to go up 47-33 -- and never trailed again.

It's OK to give our team a little credit.
Check that, it was their second Big 12 game in 24 hours (not two days) and their third game in about 55 hours.

Yeah, your legs can take you through the first half, then your gas runs out. They probably were a little tired in the first half too, but our usual crappy start kept it close. If you don't think playing three conference games in 55 hours was a big factor, then you've got really thick green and gold glasses.

It's also OK to not give our team too much credit.

Just a guess, but our staff probably felt we could handle Cincy, and didn't want to put Love at risk having to play 2 or 3 game in a row. I am a glass half-full kind of fan, so hoping this was precautionary and not a setback.

You have to credit them for dominating the boards on a good rebounding team. I'm as tough on them as anyone bc I see the potential.. but they are doing a decent job rebounding the ball. Very important in these next few games and into the ncaa's.

But how much of our rebounding success was because of their tired legs? I just don't want to credit them too much, you have to consider the whole picture and them playing 3 games in 2 days played a big part.

#8 Creighton and #11 Duke both played their first tournament games yesterday against lesser teams with tired legs and they both lost.

I'll take the win against the tired leg Bearkats.

A 23-7 run out of halftime deserves credit regardless. After the first half we played, that 8 1/2-minute period was the game, and we dominated that vital stretch.

Yep. Feeling the need to qualify or apologize for wins at any point is weird for a fan. It's ridiculous in March, when desperate teams are playing for their tournament lives and upsets happen all the time.

We played a really ****ty first half and responded with an excellent second half on both ends. It's not even close to the first time this team has done that.

Acknowledging the actual, literal results of a sporting event isn't sunshine pumping.

When fans can't be happy with wins, there's something wrong. We won the game fair and square. Covered the spread even. There's nothing to qualify or apologize for.

And acknowledging that their tired legs was probably a big factor in the win isn't what you're making it out to be, either.

Fans can be unhappy with wins, if the play wasn't good even in the win. There's nothing wrong with that. You don't get to make the rules for fanship. Of course we won the game fair and square and covered the spread - who is saying that we didn't? The point was that we probably wouldn't have, if Cincy didn't play 3 games in 2 days. I think the way we played tonight showed that's probably true.

You can literally say that about the circumstances of every single game.

"If Tech hadn't have shot under 30% from 3, Houston probably wouldn't have won."

"If McCullar and Dickinson hadn't been hurt, Cincinnati probably wouldn't have won."

"If the Big 12 Tournament wasn't played so close to K State's campus, they might not have had the crowd behind them and come back to beat Texas."

There are always extenuating circumstances behind every game. Discounting a victory because it wasn't played in a gym equidistant from each team's campus, with exactly the same amount of fans in support of each team, with the exact same number of hours of rest for each team since their last game is a silly hypothetical. Enjoy a win for what it is, and stop trying to look for reasons to crap on a win, just to look contrarian.

If a team shoots poorly from 3, the other team's defense could've had a big part in that. Yes, Kansas losing their two top players definitely played a huge part in Cincy beating them, and it wouldn't be wrong for Cincy fans to acknowledge that. I wonder if their fan base gets their panties in a wad when someone dares suggest it like our fan base does.

Look, I get trying to put a positive spin on everything, but some don't wear the green and gold glasses all the time, and they can see that struggling to win against Cincy who was playing their third game in 2 days was a bad sign. It's not "crapping on a win", it's just seeing it for what it is and expecting much better from our team that is supposed to have better players and coach. Those who saw it for what it is was not surprised in the least at our performance vs. Iowa State.

It's realism vs. homerism. Saying what you think is realistic isn't being "contrarian" - the fact that you consider it contrarian just goes to show that there's way too many homers in this forum. If you truly believe that pulling away late in a game vs. a team playing their third game in 2 days had very little to do with their tired legs, then that's homerism to a tee.

It's fine to acknowledge that they were tired. I said several times pregame that they would probably come out hot and then tire late, because their legs were dead after playing 3 games in 3 days. I said it in this very game thread during the first half run they had.

There's a difference between knowing we have a circumstantial advantage and saying, "the only reason we won is because they were tired." You're just taking a dump on the team with the latter.

For the record, every pessimist I know characterizes themselves as "a realist."

The problem with a couple on this board is that they automatically start lashing out against anything they perceive to be a slight against Baylor and just assume negativity equates to trolling. It matters not one bit to those people whether or not what you say is grounded in reality or not.

I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment. There are holes in this Baylor team. The fact it took us so long to beat a tired Cincy team is cause for some concern. The fact we had to shoot over 60 pct from 3 to beat UT is cause for concern.

Oh by the way, I'm a Baylor fan and alum. I hope my concerns turn out to be unfounded because that would mean we make a deep tourney run.

You guys and your fragility over criticism, how you guys get so unwound by it, is so comical that it's not to be believed.

FYI, pessimism is closer to reality than optimism.

Not every negative comment about a win is "taking a dump" on the team. That's where you homers go overboard. You guys really need to develop a thicker skin. Being critical of a win isn't new. It's what fans who expect a lot more from their team do. I guarantee you the players and coaches weren't happy with that win either.

My honest feeling is that the energy difference was the significant factor. I have no earthly idea why a fan can't have that opinion without it amounting to "taking a dump" on their team. It's like you guys have never been in a sports forum before, sheesh. Don't worry - I assure you Scott Drew and the players aren't going to be hurt in the slightest by what I've said. Like I said, they probably agree with me.

It's OK to give our team a little credit.

You seem to not want to give our team any credit. Weird. No, I just don't think having a little trouble beating an inferior team playing their third conference game in 55 hours deserves too much credit. Weird that you guys do.

I wonder if these guys ever played in a sport before. It's not unusual to be unhappy with a win, because you're not measuring yourself against the opponent, you're measuring yourself against yourself. "Crapping" on wins is what people who expect more of themselves often do. In fact, it's probably a better indicator of respect for our team being unhappy with the win than it is being satisfied with a second half comeback against a tired team. The latter is kind of a soft disrespect of low expectations.

Pessimists are probably more likely to see the brokenness in this life that will lead them to God, and thus no matter how unfulfilled and unhappy their lives are, they will have an eternity of joy. In that sense, pessimism is far better.

If this wasn't their second
game in two days I would be in agreement with you.

Not just sports, all aspects of life. Be sober minded, don't over credit yourself, look for the reason things happen. It'll point you to a successful path that is sustainable. Scott Drew has been exceedingly good at this over the years, his constant evolution on defense is proof. I'm expecting more adjustments after this year.

I'm not an optimist by any stretch. I'm an extreme pragmatist if anything. And as such, I know better than to ***** after wins.

You play to win the game. Any time you finish a sporting event with more points than the other team, you've accomplished your mission. Nitpick the performance if you must -- the coaches and players should always be looking for areas to improve upon -- but qualifying the result is stupid.

When you do enough to not only win a game but cover the spread, you've had a successful day by any objective measure.

It's foolish not to believe in God regardless of what labels one ascribed to.
