When Roach returns keep him playing off the ball and let Wright and VJ initiate offense. VJ initiating offense is a tweek that might salvage our season, similar to when we put the ball in Sochan's hands more after Akinjo went down. When VJ gets going downhill he is pretty much unstoppable. Either a layup, a dunk, or an assist to an open teammate. On the other hand when VJ is passively standing around on the perimeter and jacking up 3s to beat the shot clock we are a terrible offensive team.

In fairness they played on Love being healthy. As well as Roach. If we ever get healthy will have decent guard depth at least. But judging by Ashley's podcast I seriously doubt we see LL this year. He said something like they hope to have him by mid February

Nah, for most programs I might say it was fair but as a program we have had 2 or more pivotal players out for extended periods for 4 consecutive years. That means we have to recruit as if our #8, #9 and #10 guys may have to be counted on to perform if called on. To not do so is simply poor planning when you have that much evidence. We "hoped" Jonathan was gonna return from his injury. We "hoped" LJ was going to return from his injury. We "hoped" last year Love was gonna return from his injury. We've "hoped" all year long Love was gonna return from his injury. That's too much hoping and not enough realistic planning given 4 years of evidence.

Oh I agree with that. The recruiting beyond the top 8 is just putrid. It's honestly like that's not even a priority. The injury thing feels like it's beyond fluke. We've reached the point where the S&C coach needs upgraded. Something isn't right there. The amount of injuries is just insane

As it's built right now is not sustainable against quality competition and road officiating.

I agree. Edgecombe is going to get mauled on the road and the refs will swallow their whistle. Not sustainable with no cohesion or go to guy otherwise (Omier will be in foul trouble).

I get rewarding walk ons with a last year schollie, or taking good kids who want to transfer for last year because they want to be coaches eventually or whatever in the #11, #12 and #13 positions. I'm not against that at all and I know we (nor anyone else) are not going to be able to stock and keep 13 quality scholarship players.

But since Drew likes a solid 8 man rotation and we generally have at least 2 of those out for whatever reasons, it only makes sense to make sure the #9 and #10 guys are guys who can compete and perform at a reasonable level. It also fits within the pattern of what you and others have appropriately described as building the program from within.

Bingo! 9 and 10 don't need to be stars. Just serviceable. Guys who can give 5-10 solid minutes a game would do friggin wonders right now. I am surprised Omar is getting a little run. He's looked solid when he's played. Granted that's against really bad teams
