I chose not to post during the Baylor-Oklahoma State basketball game tonight to focus on the live action on ESPN. After the 83-74 upset loss by #2 Baylor to #12 Oklahoma State, I have to say that Cade Cunningham was clearly the difference in the final 5 minutes. A big factor in the loss by the Baylor Bears was going just 6-of-28 on 3-Point Shooting. Tough to watch an 8-point Baylor lead with roughly 7 minutes to play in the 2nd Half evaporate, and end in a 9-point loss. Nevertheless, Scott Drew and the Baylor Bears (22-2) will return to Waco, wait for Selection Sunday, celebrate being selected a #1 Seed in a regional, then travel to Indiana for what they hope is a long stay during the 2021 NCAA MB Tournament.

Disappointed in the loss, but our boys are still the Big 12 Regular season champs. They don't lose THAT title.

Hopefully, this loss will get the guys to focus on the NCAA tournament and not let this happen there.

I asked this question earlier but never got a reply or I missed it. Did we get a trophy or is that something our fans think we got? It is my understanding there is only one conference champ and that is whoever wins the tourney, not regular season.

You would be incorrect.

There's both.
Yep, its how this weekend the Lady Bears are going for their 20th Big 12 title since 2011

They'll have film. There's a blueprint on how to attack BU. Kansas, KSU yesterday and OSU today gave teams plenty of film on how to attack BU.

Relax, it was a pretty bad loss to a pretty solid team. Should have picked up the D intensity and taken it to them when up 8 but didn't. A few needed adjustments could have turned it but don't harp on that.

We know we haven't been nearly the same since the pause but this team can still make a deep run including winning it all. We are flat for some reason but we only need 6. We can do it. I don't believe in the lose to re-focus mantra but it can happen.

OSU is a hell of a team that is scorching hot. They have won 8 of their last 9 games and just beat WVU in back to back games. Their only loss since Feb 13th was to us. They are gonna be a very tough out in MM.

It sucks....but this is not a bad loss.

Correction: The Baylor Bears will travel from Kansas City to Indianapolis for Selection Sunday, and the NCAA MBB Tournament.

Did you not see the actual trophy presentation last week? With the trophy that said "Big 12 Champions?" It was a real thing.

I wouldn't say great. Didn't look terrible. Not ourselves - K State game showed that.

The same can be said of every team in the country except for Gonzaga. Not every team will have Cade Cunningham. Some will have a Garza, or something else. Champions find ways to deal with them.

Learn, rest, reset. The tourney that matter is still ahead of us.

Ok state peaking and getting hot at the right time, might make a nice little run in the tournament.

Yes and winning a 3 month battle to win the regular season is a bigger deal than winning a 3 day battle to win the conference tournament. However, that said, I would have liked to have won both.

What is the new blueprint? Laying off Vital and our other Bigs and packing the lane to stop drives? It just seems to me we are missing shots we usually make, are turning the ball over more, and not switching on D like we did pre-COVID. We also seem to be coming out in the first halves without much intensity.

They are deceptively good. They dropped two to TCU but would've otherwise been #2 in the conference.

Yeah other teams just need to have their own Cade Cunningham. Baylor has been solved.

Well, then I guess we're screwed. Oh well.
DanaDane

They have the makings of a team that could make a reasonably deep run. Anderson has become one of the best players in the conference to go along with existing components and Cade gives him the necessary openness as people try to double Cade. Their only downfall will be if they run into a matchup with a physical front line and the game is called loosely.
IowaBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Never said we're screwed. However there's definitely ways to attack our defense. When you get back doored to death over and over and continue to switch resulting in our guards defending 6'10 guys in the lane then you have problems. The defense is a shell of itself has been since the pew Covid Texas game. Does that mean we're screwed? No it doesn't but it's a clear concern

That's not gonna be a problem unless Dixon buses his team to Indy to watch.

I agree this is the problem. I would like to see the stats pre and post to confirm what my eyes are seeing here.

I don't know if they don't have confidence in their conditioning since the pause and are conserving energy. But bc we don't have the patented length we've had in the past they have to be incredibly active for the defense to function. We are a step slow physically and mentally... a step behind on defense. Will we get it figured out?

Hopefully, as I think they can still win it all and have a decent chance to do it.
IowaBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Bingo, and why would they? Vital/JTT/Thamba pose 0 threat offensively. Love all 3 but none of them strike fear into anyone offensively or
Quinton
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yall are also right on the lack of offensive threat. If any of those just developed a consistent hook or short range fall away, that would be all it takes. Too late now obviously so just going to have to overwhelm teams which means Meyer and Flagler (especially) need to really pick it up.

There's both.

Exactly. We get a trophy for winning the regular season and the winner of the conference tourney gets a trophy. Two different things - as it should be. Obviously you'd like to win both, but the far greater accomplishment is winning the season title.

From the sky is not falling department:

2019 Final Four champs Virgina lost in the semi-finals of the ACC tournament to FSU by 10 points. Virginia still earned a #1 seed for MM....and of course won the whole damn thing.

On the bright side, the ladies dominated today, and appear to be peaking at the right time, as the men appear to be headed the other direction.

And then unfortunately becomes a defensive liability and has to let guys drive past him with ease since we can't afford to take him off the floor and lose his offensive scoring.

Let's be honest, Scott Drew was totally outcoached tonight. It also happened in the Kansas game. Bill Self figured out when any combination of Vital, Thamba, Tchachoua are in the game together don't guard them. Other coaches noticed and copied. When Mayer is in the game that strategy is unavailable. We shot well from the three point line outside of the Kansas game and therefore in the other games and we were too talented to lose to coaching strategies.

But we didn't shoot well tonight. We had an eight point lead with Mayer in the game with a few minutes to go in the second half. Drew sits him and we lose by 9. Nuff said. Even when it was obvious we needed to substitute offense for defense in the last two minutes Drew didn't do it. Let's not lay the blame for this loss on the players, let's lay it on where it belongs.

Did you watch Matt play defense today? He single handily gifted OSU a 5-0 run in the first half. As great of a player as he can be he can also destroy momentum in the blink of an eye because his play is sporadic. Flagler/Mayer/JTT have to contribute offensively and defensively or this team will struggle to get past the Sweet 16
