Coming up at the half of ND/Tennessee.

Similar to the football playoff deals in the weeks leading up to the actual selection. Should give some insight in the collective mind of the NCAA Selection Committee at this juncture. They'll list their current Top 16, in order.

Lady Bears will be a #2 seed at worst if they take care of business in Big 12 and maybe a #1 seed. There will be some attrition from the teams in front of us. Starting with Notre Dame. Still, this first reveal is a big snub.

Was surprising to me to be 9 and some that were ahead. Is Notre Dame expected to get some players back soon from their injured players?

They made the Maryland comparison, which is accurate to this point, but won't be for long. Last year's Maryland team failed to move up because they only played one game against a ranked team from this point forward, and they lost. We will have at least 5, and maybe as many as 8 more games against ranked opponents, including 2 or 3 matchups with top 10 Texas. If we win our games, we will have no trouble reaching a top seed, but the margin is narrower this year than some past seasons. Charlie Creme's personal ranking has us winning the Big 12 and a 1 seed, FWIW.

Notre Dame's injured players are all out for the year. It is clear they don't have the horses and will be falling down the rankings.I expect them to lose 3-4 more regular season games after this one.

Play well (Morris, Richards improve with more playing time), Beat UT x2-3, and we will be fine come NCAA Tourney time! Sic'Em!! Lady Bears!

I'll just say thanks now. Hope they leave us there! I love when Mulkey has a chip on her shoulder! Go ahead, tell her that her team isn't that good!

There really is no point in this. It is completely meaningless at this time. It generates some discussion, but what good does it do anyone. No one can change their schedule at this point. More meaningless than the CFP charade. No team can "prepare" to host the first rounds, which is how this got started I believe. It makes some sense later for that purpose, but not now.

You can call this meaning less but it shows an early bias by the selection committee. They are looking real close at our schedule but probably not considering at all the circumstances of our loss at UCLA.
I don't like it but Kim might use it for motivation.

No sense getting wrapped around the axle. If BU takes care of business, things will work themselves out come March.

SOS is not fully known when you set your schedule, Stanford and Kentucky were not as good as usual, and UCLA faded a bit. We ought to be overall number 4 or 5 based on the body of work thus for. Our conference is stronger than last year, a good showing might lift our ranking.

If anyone wants some reassurance, the computer rankings love Baylor. It is not out of the question for us to finish the season 30-2 or even 31-1.

At least this selection process supposedly has some criteria. The CFP just makes stuff up to justify their current darlings. I would think we will be okay if we take care of business. As someone said above, we will have ample time to play/beat the ranked conference teams. Better to finish strong beating ranked teams.

Seems like they're trying to encourage tough non conference scheduling to generate more interesting games for television. Sure, come tournament time they'll let the less talented teams maul the better ones and prevent the best teams from playing at the end, but good effort.

Oh, we'll be fine, and my "lol" above was laughing at myself. As already well said, our out of conference body of work is weaker than we'd have expected due to some fall off of teams most would've guessed would be better than they are this year.

We also haven't played a Big XII team with a pulse. Yet. That's about to change.

The Big XII champion will be a #1 seed come March.

I just want to be playing on April 1st.

The committee makes the decision based on if the tournament started today. Just to get through regular season if WVU, OU, & UT all stay ranked and we beat them all that will 6 top 25 victories us. Not to mention tourney when we would likely face 1-2 more of these teams given we are the No.1 see and have the supposed easier side of the bracket.

Glad our conference this year is better than big ten conference last year, where Maryland failed to beat OSU and thus received a 3 seed at 30-1

wouldn't you hate to be the 2 seed - even the 1 seed - placed in the bracket with Baylor as the 3 seed

Could someone tell how Baylor fared in the rankings in 2005? I wasn't watching WBB in those days--I was living in New Orleans, and had no idea the Lady Bears were doing so well until someone told me they beat LSU in the NCAA tournament on their way to the NC. Throughout the season, were they consistently ranked high, or did they work their way up? Just curious.

2004-05 AP poll
8 9 9 6 6 5 3 3 2 4 7 8 7 7 6 7 6

13 March 2005 NCAA Selection Show Currently 26-3 on the season and ranked No. 6 AP poll. Baylor was selected as a 2 seed in the Tempe Regional.

As fujobear pointed out in the post above
Most amazing accomplishment was that Baylor defeated three #1 seeds on their way to the 2005 NCAA championship.

It's not a bias. It's actually correct. I totally support Kim and her program, but if you are going to be respected as a top tier program, you have to play the schedule that merits it.
We'll move up the ladder, but the low current rankings are "schedule deserved".

OTH when the depth of the roster is as thin as the Lady Bears is this season, there may be some advantage to having a lower SOS. Keep the Lady Bears healthy!
