Astros have been shut out twice in the past week. If they don't show up, why should I?

I love them, but yeeech.
This right here is why I bash Houston fans constantly. Worst fans in Texas.

Ease up. Every fan base has lamenting fans.

You could just have easily reacted to my story that last week my wife and I has 3 days without our kids to travel anywhere, and we chose Philadelphia to see the Astros play two road games, and declared that "This right here is why I praise Houston fans constantly. Best fans in Texas. "

Either reaction would have been overboard.

Im trying to change the narrative.

Are you? Or are you just trying to shut down anyone with valid concerns?
Invalid concerns, mostly. This is the best team the city has ever seen, and still they b itch.
Get back to me when we win a World Series game. Until then, the 2005 team was our best, and that team had issues, too.

Or are you one of those people who puts a sticker over the 'check engine' light when it comes on?
Just getting back to you...

I think we can safely say this is the best team the city has ever seen.

(If you feel like it, you can go pull up the post where I said I hoped they didn't start calling him Justin "Larry Andersen" Verlander).

I don't mean to brag, but I always thought Yu Darvish would be instrumental in bringing the first World Series Championship to the State of Texas...

And the Astros bring the first MLB Championship to Texas.

I'm in my 60's and for most of my life I've been completely unable to understand why a Texas team could never get over the hump and win the World Series, especially considering how big baseball is in our state. Shoot, for most of my life a Texas team couldn't even get to the World Series. It's incredible to finally see that streak broken as I was starting to wonder if I'd ever live to see it.

my first game was in 1967 v the Giants.... Mays and McCovey.... later we saw the Cardinals... Brock, Gibson, Flood...

The first time I walked out of the tunnel and into the light of the Astrodome I thought I would never see a building that big again the rest of my life. Watching Joe Morgan, Jimmy Wynn, Doug Rader, Rusty Staub, Denis Menke, Don Wilson, Larry Dierker... they were all bigger than life...

this has been a long time coming, but when it gets here.... it's sweet.

Congratulations to all the Astros fans everywhere... We are ALL 2017 World Series Champions!

Sometimes pitchers just run up against a team they struggle against. That's baseball.

Who'd have thought that when the World Series was done, Houston would win the series but Verlander didn't get a win. He pitched great but things worked out to give someone else the credit.

Trashing Darvish is real easy after the fact. You look at his numbers, the confidence his team had in him, of course you put him on the mound in Game 7. If Houston had him, we'd have done the same thing.

Another thing that worked was that the media completely ignored Houston pitchers not named Keuchel or Verlander. They ignored McCullers, Morton, and Peacock. Turned out those guys mattered a lot.

Finally, everyone likes to trot out the truism, 'great pitching beats great hitting'. Yes and no. If pitching always beat hitting, batting averages of MLB players would be below .100, but in real life, sometimes a hitter figures out even a really good pitcher, and works the at-bat to get the pitch he wants. When a batter fouls off pitch after pitch, he not only drives up the pitch count, he gets a better idea of how the pitcher thinks and throws. Houston's batters solved LA's pitchers by Game 7, enough to win.

I'm astounded that nobody has pointed how what kind of rabbits foot Bradley J. Peacock truly was this year. I don't have time at the moment, but go back and look at our W-L record of games he appeared in.

If Peacock is throwing, bet on a W.

Best ever Houston sports team, agreed In part because of what the front office and Hinch did AFTER August.

Part of Hinch's brilliance, IMIO, was how he handled the bullpen late in the series.

Darvish was 4-1 against the awful Astros of 2012-13. Since then he is 1-6.

He put up gaudy numbers, but always seemed to take way too many pitches to do so (often hitting the 100-pitch count by the 5th or 6th). And he never quite seemed to have the "it" factor of a Verlander or Bumgarner when everything was on the line.

And that's why I didn't mind him getting shipped out to LA.

as good and as young as Houston, New York and Ellay are, we could see a Lakers, Sixers, Celtics type of deal for the next 6-7 years.

Before you get too carried away, the last team to repeat as WS champs were the Yankees in 1998-1999-2000. Since 2001, only 3 teams have even made back-to-back World Series (2008-09 Phillies, 2010-11 Rangers, 2014-15 Royals).

History says your fear is correct.

The 1975 Reds say "hi".
You have to remember that I am a huge Rangers fan, and all I can see is de ja vu of the 2011 series with St. Louis.

For it to be complete deja vu, Manfred would need to postpone tonight's game so Kershaw could pitch game 7, just like Selig did to give Carpenter an extra days' rest.

Was Nelson Cruz fkup in 2011 or 2010?
2011. What's forgotten was that the pitch taken before the one Freeze hit to Right was close enough to the outside corner it could have been the final strike of the series.
The pitch before the one Freeze hit to Right was a 1-1 pitch that was a 97 mph fast ball that Freeze swung on and missed.

They may like to blame Darvish, but Jansen and Kershaw didn't exactly hold up too well, either. Then there was Bellinger, who struck out a record 17 times in the World Series.

In the end, they just got beat by a better team.

Remember it was Bellinger who threw behind Darvish. So instead of an out, we had a run and an RISP.

Not according to the LA talk shows. Not only did they throw Yu under the bus, but they backed over him and did it again and again.

Its much easier to pick on one person than admit you got beat by a better team

I hear Hillary is now saying Yu Darvish is the real reason she lost the election.

Harvey Weinstein is saying it was really Yu Darvish dressed up like him to frame him.

NYPD is saying Yu Darvish rented that truck used in the terrorist attack.

Yu bought a winning lottery ticket this morning, but accidentally left it in his laundry.

Ironically, the team built by sabermetrics and all that new aged baseball stuff won the World Series because their Coach had the common sense to ride his pitchers with a hot hand until they started to crack. For 3 games he couldn't find hot enough hands, but for 4 he did and that was what won the series. The Dodgers Coach was too worried about matchups to stand back and realize he had some pitchers that were throwing untouchable stuff and would take them out no matter what. Sometimes the simplest answer is the best. I love that it was Hinch that decided to go with that approach. I am also glad the Dodgers went with that approach because Game 5 doesn't happen the way it did without the Dodger bullpen being exhausted and that was just one hell of a ball game.

I didn't say repeat... I said that there are two teams that are equally as young and as talented as Houston and that the three of them may see each other again a time or two or three over the next few years.

although, even whitetrash should be able to see that this is a group that is built on a solid foundation and will continue to compete at a high level for the foreseeable future. Obviously many things have to go right to win it all, but I don't see any reason why Houston won't be in the mix for the next few years....

Carried Away?

btw, Vegas and Off Shore Books have Houston as the favorite for next year....

Maybe Maybin. Not sure about the others.

Also, if anyone is having trouble finding WS Championship swag at Dick's and Academy with long lines and crowds and not a lot of stuff, try JC Penny's and Khol's. I went to both last night and they had a ton of gear with no lines at all. I picked up like 5 different shirts. Go 'Stros!!!!
