Thank God for TV. My daughter is going to college next year, and we're planning on medical school, which means we're not spending extra on anything.

When the wife and I are eating sandwiches for lunch 4 days a week, I know better than to even hint at buying playoff tickets.

But I wish ...
That which does not kill me, will try again and get nastier

For fun, go check out the stub hub prices for Minute Maid Park games in the WS. Pretty amazing.

Pathetic. Reserved only for the super rich now.

Or season tickets holders, which I am.

How did you get season tickets that included World Series games? I was under the impression season tickets only covered the regular season.
No, that is for the Super Bowl. NBA and MLB the season ticket has an option. The downside is you have to pay for it upfront. If the team does not make it or loses in say 4 games, that money will roll over to next years tickets OR the Stros will return that money, but it takes forever.

My father-in-law is also a season ticket holder with some of his friends. They were not only offered their 4 seats in section 227, row 1 for every postseason game, but offered an option to buy 4 additional upper deck seats in section 425, row 11 for every postseason game. They said yes to both, and have had 8 seats to each game to share. That's why I got to go to ALDS Game 2, ALCS Game 2, and ALCS Game 7.

It's also the reason I just found out my father-in-law is inviting me to World Series Game 3. My first ever World Series game.

I'm trying to see about Games 4 and 5 still.

As a father of 2 kids in grade school with lots of weekday after-school activities to take them to, the fact that these home games have all occurred on the weekend has been huge.
That is awesome. It is going to be an experience for a lifetime.

That is awesome. What is your face value of your World Series tickets? What section?

Section 124, row 22, seats 5&6.

ALCS face value was $180. I only got game 4 bc I spilt the coat with another guy and he will go to game 3. Will tell you when i get the ticket.
Holy crap, what seats! Congrats.

We used to sit there for about $15 3 years ago. My how far we've come.
I think the regular season now is like $50. Crazy how much tickets increase. I bet next year the go up 50%. The concession prices are also ridiculous. A soda is around $8.50, 20 oz water is $7, and a beer is something like $15.

Yep. If you're not drinking any beer, it's a must to go get a Budweiser Defensive Driver bracelet and free coke/water bottle voucher. In the club level, they even have given me one of the $8.50 souvenir coke mugs for them, even though it's supposed to be for the $5.25 size of coke/water.

I have tickets to ALCS Game 7 - I plan on using them.

I now have tickets to World Series Houston Games 2 and 3 - I also plan on using them.

Go Astros!
What sections are you in for Saturday/Sunday? And why didn't you also get Game 1 (World Series Game 3 on Friday)? Sold out for lottery winners or cost issue?
433 top row for Saturday (its not the greatest seat, but I am in the building and you can still see everything from there). 424 for Sunday.

Friday was a no go due to work situation. I will be able to watch it at home, but no way to get to the park in time from my house without taking off work early and that wasn't possible this Friday for me or the wife.

Interesting note on ticket prices - if you won the Lotteries (so face value from the Astros for general public) - Upper Deck ALDS (35-45), Upper Deck ALCS (85-99), World Series Upper Deck (199-205). Those numbers are really close if not right on.

That's great info. Crazy how the secondary market doesn't inflate ALDS or ALCS by more than 50-75%, but the World Series ticket prices are inflated by 400-600% and up.

More folks than just area Houston Astros fans want to go see the World Series. ALDS and ALCS demand are driven by a much smaller market (i.e. the two teams playing) versus anyone in North America who has the money to pay and likes baseball.

I hate having the pitcher bat. Huge advantage for the NL team and makes for a much easier out.

You would think so but the history of the World Series and inter-league play heavily favors the AL.

How much of that is a function of one team for New York?

Certainly a large portion of it for the World Series. However, since interleague play started in 1997, the AL has a .529 winning percentage. The National league hasn't won more than the AL since 2003.

All I am pointing out is that there isn't much of an advantage in forcing the AL team's pitcher to hit.

I'm not sure what the stats say, but I can count on 1 hand how many pitchers were even somewhat reliable hitters. Not many.

Once again, when the bats aren't working and you only score 1 run, you're going to have a tough time winning.

Tonight is a huge game.

Lose, and we're down 0-2 using our best starters. We could still win the series but would need to sweep at home and then still steal a win in LA.

Win, and we have home field advantage and are the first team in post-season to beat LA in their house. All kinds of good things roll out of that.

Really happy Verlander is on the mound tonight, but I really hope our bats wake up and show good discipline, too.

Whats aggravating is that we were touching Kershaw, just wasnt going where we wanted it.
